Chapter 38 - Battle Against Pain

I jumped down into the newly formed crater. Through the dust and smoke, I saw three large outlines. When I got closer, I realized they were toads. On top of Gamabunta was a blonde figure and for a second, I froze. Dad? I shook my head and remembered the night the nine tails had attacked. There was no way, he was dead. That left only one option for the figure in front of me. Naruto.

"Those are the Pains," I heard one of the toads say to Naruto.

I looked towards the direction they were facing and saw several orange haired figures, each one with several piercings and all of them wearing the Akatsuki cloak. So it was them, the ones who were behind the destruction. Someone suddenly jumped in between us and the Pains. 

"I am... The Fifth Hokage!"

The figure who had put herself between the six Pains and Naruto was none other than Lady Tsunade, followed by an ANBU guard.

"How dare you trample upon the jewel, the dreams of my predecessors. I won't forgive you! I settle this as Hokage!" She yelled at them.

"It seems you know a little about pain. However, I have no need for you. The one I seek-..."

The bald Pain with spikes in his head suddenly launched himself at Lady Tsunade. I rushed towards her, grabbing her at the last minute and pushing her behind me. Just as I expected to feel the sharp blades pierce my body, I heard a loud crash.

"Is me!"

Naruto had crushed the Pain who was about to attack us. I was facing his back and I couldn't help but see the faint outlines of dad and Master Jiraiya on either side of him. He was so much like them.

"There's no need for Konoha's Hokage to bother herself with the likes of them," Naruto said as the ANBU member rushed over to us. "You just sit back and sip some tea, granny."

"Naruto..." Lady Tsunade said quietly as she stared up at him.

"Lady Tsunade, can you stand?" I asked her.

"Gamakichi, take granny Tsunade away from here and some place safe," Naruto ordered the smaller of the toads.

"Gotcha," he replied as he hopped over.

"Granny, I'll take over from here. Keep the rest of the village out of this. I can't be worrying about everyone else, not during this fight," Naruto said, his eyes never leaving the enemies in front of him.

"Alright... But, please take Katsuyu. I'm sure she'll come in handy. She has intel on all the Pains," Lady Tsunade told him, holding out a mini Katsuyu.

Lord Fukasaku grabbed Katsuyu before jumping and landing on Naruto's scroll. The other elder frog, Lady Shima, landing on the other side of Naruto's scroll.

"Go Katsuyu girl. Just keep yourself hidden in Naruto boy's clothing," Lord Fukasaku said as she quickly hid under his cloak.

I helped Lady Tsunade get into Gamakichi's grasp. The frog gently held her up. 

"You," I said to the ANBU guard. "Make sure that she's alright. Don't let anything happen to her."

I had noticed that the mark on her forehead was gone and guessed that she had used it earlier to protect everyone through Katsuyu. Without the mark, Lady Tsunade would be in a weakened state, her chakra depleted.

"Yes," the ANBU guard told me, prepared to follow her and Gamakichi.

I bit my finger, enough to draw blood before slamming my palm into the ground. "Kuchiyose no Jutsu!"

There was a puff of smoke before a white fox named Seishin, whom I had made a contract with as a child, appeared.

"Protect Lady Tsunade and let me know if anything happens to her," I told Seishin.
