Miyuki

I stood behind dad in the Hokage's office while the other ANBU lined up in rows in front of him. I couldn't help but feel awkward that I wasn't standing with them. However, no one questioned him or raised any issues as he had put me down as the first member of his Team Ro, an elite ANBU unit that directly serves the current Hokage.

"I'm counting on all of you," he said, his voice breaking me out of my thoughts.

"Yes, sir!" Everyone responded in unison.

One by one, the ANBU members began to leave the office. The last one to leave was a boy with silver hair. The mask that was covering his face was in the shape of a fox, similar to mine, but someone else could have easily mistaken his mask as being shaped like a dog. However, it didn't matter to me as I would recognize him anywhere, no matter what mask covered his face. Kakashi. I glanced down at Minato, wondering when and how he had gotten Kakashi to join the ANBU. I guess even after becoming Hokage, dad still wanted to keep his team of remaining students close to him. After a few moments, Kakashi turned and walked slowly out of the office, closing the door behind him. I watched as Minato looked after him with concern written all over his face.

"Miyuki," he started. "Have you talked to Kakashi lately?"

"No," I responded.

He seemed troubled by the response but didn't ask anything more.

"Have you decided who will be on team Ro?" I asked him.

"Not yet, but I'm thinking of having Kakashi be one of the members," he replied.

"He'll make a good captain," I told him as I glanced at the paperwork dad had begun working on.

Dad looked up at me. "If he's put on the team, he won't be the captain."

"What? Why not? Kakashi's more than qualified!" I exclaimed, surprised.

"While that's true, he still suffers from the trauma of Rin's death. If I were to make him captain, he would more than likely feel pressured, and who knows how the stress would affect him," Minato explained.

"Then, who's going to be captain?" I asked him.

"You."

I froze when I heard his words. There was no way I had heard that correctly, right?

"Did you just say me?" I asked him, dumbstruck.

"Yeah," he responded casually.

"I'm not quali-..." I was about to say until he cut me off.

"Don't undermine your skills, Miyuki. They've improved tremendously since the Kannabi Bridge mission."

I couldn't help but look down, wondering how the other ANBU members would react once Minato made his announcement about Team Ro. While I didn't want the other ANBU members to dislike me based on that reason, I couldn't help but think of Kakashi. What would he think of it?

Kakashi

I walked out of the practice field where I tried using chidori. I couldn't shake the image of Rin's face from my head, every time I used in and felt my hand beginning to tremble. I stopped it almost immediately, knowing that I had to get over it now that I was in the ANBU. I took my ANBU mask off and put it away. Everyone already knew that Minato sensei had recruited me to be a member of the ANBU, so even though I wore the uniform, there was no reason for me to cover my face while walking through the village. I pulled down my headband, covering my sharingan eye and made sure that my face mask was secure before walking out of the practice field. I passed by the one next to me but stopped when I heard a familiar shattering sound. My head automatically turned to look at her. She was still wearing her mask but I knew who she was. She crystallized another target before aiming her shuriken at the center and throwing it. I heard another shattering sound as I watched the blue fragments fall to the ground. The majority of Konoha believed that Miyuki had only been allowed to join ANBU because of Minato sensei. They were blissfully unaware of the kekkei genkai and advanced vision she had, even though she now openly trained with it and had used it on several missions. However, I knew for a fact that the majority of Leaf shinobi had heard the rumors spreading in other nations, of there being a lethal crystal style kekkei genkai user in Konoha. Like father, like daughter, I thought, as I thought about Minato sensei's famous nickname and reputation.

"Kakashi?"

My head snapped up when Miyuki called my name. I looked at her mask, seeing how similar the overall shape of the fox was to my own mask.

"Are you ok?" She asked, walking over.

"I guess," I responded, shrugging my shoulders.

"Come on, you're spending time with me today," she said.

Before I could protest, she grabbed my arm and started running. She turned back to look at me, her mask covering her expression. I couldn't help but get dragged along. She made my heart feel a little bit at ease, her presence made me feel like everything was alright. I closed my eyes for a moment as we ran, feeling the nightmares fall away and instead being replaced with the girl who stole my heart months ago.
