Chapter 24

August Heart grinned, since after Carver was arrested, he'd been quick to take control of Black Hole, since it turned out that most of the metahumans in Black Hole felt the same way about Carver as he did. Wondering why they were taking orders from a regular human with no powers at all. So now that he was gone, they helped him launch a coup and take over Black Hole. Even Carver's former partner Evan McCulloch had supported his rise, since honestly, he hated Carver and the fact that a normal human thought that he had any kind of right to control gods like them. He'd set Hart up with a new lab in Black Hole's headquarters and was trying to find a cure for what his brother-in-law had done to him.

Especially since Evan wasn't fond of his sister, he did wish that he had some kind of relationship with his niece and he hated that Carver was cold blooded enough to want to kill his own daughter.

The whole reason Evan had put Eva into the Mirrorverse is because he didn't have it in him to kill his own sister and he did plan to let her out eventually, but Carver was an even worse monster than he was. Which was why Evan was very happy to see him go.

Anyways, Hart was currently working on finding a cure for the condition Carver had given him when he heard Evan enter his lab.

"Did you find something that can help me?" Hart asked.

"Maybe, but it won't be easy." Evan said.

"Tell me." Hart said.

"If you could establish a direct connection to the speed force, gain organic speed, it would cure you of your condition and make you a permanent speedster." Evan said.

"And that is something that I have been after for years, but I haven't had any luck." Hart said.

"Well, maybe you should consider reaching out to someone who knows even more about the speed force than you." Evan said.

"My limited speed prevents me from being able to keep up with an organic speedster long enough to get the DNA sample I'd need from them." Hart reminded him.

"Yeah, speedsters you hate. But we both know there's another speedster in this time period who might be able to help you." Evan said.

"The Reverse Flash." Hart said and he had to admit, he was intrigued, since while fighting the actual Flash was his ultimate goal, maybe going to the Flash's greatest enemy was the best person to go to for advice on this topic.

"I found him in Central City and while he might not like you, I think that his hatred of good speedsters might be enough to get him to help you." Evan said.

"Worth a shot. Where is he?" Heart asked.

"In the ruins of the Star Labs facility." Evan said.

"Perfect. Take charge and make sure that no one suspects that this operation is not sincere. After all, the only reason we're making it look like we want to save Carver is because some of the minions here in Black Hole are still loyal to him. Hopefully Impulse and his lackeys won't realize how easy this is for them. You should prepare an extraction squad to get our goons out of KCPD custody, since they were just playing their parts and they feel the same way about Carver that we do." Heart said.

"It's already done. But avoid using your speed for now. I do agree with my brother-in-law that you were too hasty in attacking Impulse earlier. We can't let him or his cohorts know that you're involved with us until the time is right. And that time won't be until your speed is as unlimited as Impulse's and you're no longer dying." Evan said.

"I hate moving slowly, but I suppose you're right. Especially since not only could my speed be tracked, using it will only accelerate my condition, the more speed I use, the faster I burn through those Velocity X boosters that keep me stable for now." Heart said, loathing the fact that the formula he'd created to give himself speed was now the only thing keeping him alive, which meant that it couldn't be used for its true purpose. But someday it will be. When it allowed him to run faster than any other.
