I smile softly, opening my eyes to the beautiful and calming sight of my fiancé sleeping next to me. Even with slobber on his pillow and messy hair, he's gorgeous to me. We've been working hard for many months and haven't seen much of each other.
Kookie has a new and demanding project, and I now run the South Korean Branch of The Agency. Business is exploding and I can't get escorts trained fast enough. Six months ago, I moved to South Korea to be with Kookie. That decision meant leaving my family and friends. Although I believe I've adjusted well and developed a close friendship with Kookie's brother's husband Jin, I still carry an ache in my heart for home. I miss my best friend, Jimin, terribly, even though we talk a few times a week. Well, it was only once last week, with our calls getting shorter due to fatigue and time difference. We seem to do more texting and sharing on social media these days. It's different and, in those rare moments I slow down enough to think about it, I don't like it. I need my Chim.
It was a year ago that I accepted my final assignment at The Agency. It all seems so long ago. So many challenges and difficulties but, through it all, we stayed true to our love. It never wavered and it never will. We promised each other.
I shower and dress for an early morning meeting. As I prepare to leave our bedroom, I hear the tired, raspy voice of my man.
"Hey baby, where are you going? Please come back to bed." I turn and see him lying on his side, rubbing his drowsy eyes. He's usually in a deep morning sleep when I leave. I'm the one that's asleep when he arrives home late at night.
"Good morning, baby." I'd love to do nothing more than slide between the sheets with him but work calls. I walk over to him and kneel and kiss his forehead. His hand attaches to my wrist and gently pulls me down and moves over. "Come back to bed with me, baby."
I whisper softly. "Kookie, I'm dressed, and I have a meeting this morning." His beautiful face contorts into a frown.
"Tae, please. I miss you." Hearing the need in his voice makes me shudder a bit with uneasiness and my own disappointment.
"I'm right here, baby, and I'll see you tonight. I have an important client that's waited months to meet with me." He sighs and the sadness in his eyes breaks my heart. I press my lips to his forehead and stand reluctantly. We've both have been busy and have found less and less time for each other.
"What's happening to us?" He says and I slowly turn back to him. "We said we wouldn't let this happen. I don't like it, Tae. I want my man in my bed in the morning."
"Kookie, I want my man in my bed at night," I say reactively.
"We used to make love all the time, and now I barely see you, Tae." Unable to come up with a sufficient response, I kiss his cheek.
"Kookie, we need to work this out. I miss you too. I'll stay up later if you can come home not too late or we can talk this weekend." He nods unconvincingly. With every step I take towards the door, his words swirl in my head. I know all too well of the dangers of separation and how couples don't mean to but lose their way and drift apart.
I'd never let that happen to us... Terror sweeps through my gut as I pull open the garage door and pause midway. The back of my eyelids feel like fire, and I pull in a deep breath, take a step back and close the door softly.
I stand there and take out my phone. "Good morning, Hwan. Please cancel my morning appointments. I know, I know. However, I have something urgent at home that needs my attention. Please give my apologies and reschedule for next week. Thank you, Hwan."
I promised Kookie that I'd keep him my highest priority and that's what I'm going to do. It's been a few weeks since we made love, and it was really a quick fuck. We came and I ran off to work. That certainly wasn't the passion I wanted or would accept in my relationship. My God, where the fuck have I been?
