Danny

"How was your day, babe?"

"Good."

Lia smiled. "That's good."

It was far from a good day. Having Valentina reject me completely had ruined my day and I needed her to see how I really felt about her and all of the things that I have wanted to do to her.

"Yeah."

"Did she try talking to you?"

"Who?"

Lia scoffed. "Who do you think?"

"No, she didn't talk to me."

"Good, because you are my husband, not hers."

If only roles were reversed, I would rather spend every waking moment with Valentina right now rather than Lia.

"Yep, I am all yours."

"Are you sure that she didn't try to talk to you?"

"Yeah, I'm sure."

"Good. I made fettuccini if you're hungry."

"You actually made dinner?"

Lia scowled at my snark question, and I could sense that it irritated her but at this point, I really did not care. "Excuse me?"

"You don't ever cook, Lia. What changed your mind?"

"I wanted to make dinner for my husband. Is that a problem?"

"No, I just am surprised."

"Well, I figured that I could do something nice for you, considering I am your wife, Danny. Can't you just give me some credit?"

"It's just pretty frustrating working my ass off, knowing that you spend almost every cent that I make. Maybe if you worked, you could change."

"How dare you!"

"What, you can't accept the truth?"

"I can't believe you would say that!"

"Lia, let's be honest here. You haven't worked in years. The day we got married, you quit."

"That really hurts my feelings, Danny."

"Too bad. "

I could put on an act all I wanted, but there was no denying that I wanted Valentina all to myself.

Valentina

Unsurprisingly, I received two messages and three missed calls from Danny while I was at Micah's. "Are you going to answer him at some point?"

"Why should I? Besides, you also agreed that I should not get involved with him."

"I know, I just feel like men like him won't stop until you do what they want."

"And what will that do? He is persistent, and it will make things worse."

"I mean... yeah, I guess you're right."

"I know I am."

"But what are you going to do about it though? Ignoring him will only make him more persistent."

"I know."

"I mean... there's nothing wrong with experimenting, right?"

"No, but my relationship with Lia is already strained and if she found out, it would make things even worse between us."

Micah shrugged. "You only live once. Besides, I know you like him. You can lie all you want, but I just can tell."

"I do, but it just feels even wrong to think about him."

"Just get it done and over with."

"I don't know."

"I know it's bad encouraging this, but it's the only way he'll shut up. Besides, it's Saturday night."

After I left Micah's, I drove to the Hilton and reserved a room for the night. I hated doing this to myself, but it may be the only way to stop him from contacting me.
