Valentina
The scowl that formed on Danny's face made it crystal clear that he was angry. "Are you serious?"
"Yeah, I am unfortunately."
"God damn it, Valentina. What the hell?"
"Don't you dare try and fully blame me. Your just at fault as well, Danny."
"I thought you were on the pill."
"You never asked."
"Well, you could have told me that you weren't."
"I should have, and I am sorry. It was not right. But I am acknowledging my mistakes."
"I am in no shape to having a kid, especially with you."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Valentina, I..."
"Regardless of what happens, I will take care of my baby by myself."
"I didn't mean for it to come out that way."
Shaking my head, I stood up and left his office, feeling a mix of both anger and sadness. I hated admitting the fact that I liked him but having to break the news and seeing how he reacted really showed his true colors, although I should have known better. Accidents can happen and I did not have luck on my side this time.
Later that night, I got a surprise phone call. "Hey, is this Valentina?"
"Yes, who is this?"
"Nico."
"Nico? As in Nico Rossi?"
"Yes."
"Why are you calling me? I thought you were in Florida."
"I sold my house there."
"What? Why?"
"I missed being near my family. How far are you from Dallas?"
"3 hours."
"Can I meet up with you?"
"It's almost 11."
"And?"
"It's late, also you'll be driving a pretty long distance.
"You are worth it, Val. Please? I need to see you."
"Okay. Where do you want me to go?"
"The Marriott."
"Got it, see you soon."
I hung up and got in my car, wondering what Nico would have to say to me considering we haven't spoken in two years.
*** One hour later: Nico's face lit up the moment I entered the hotel room. "Val...."
"Hi."
"God, I missed you."
"You did?"
Smirking, he wrapped his arms around my waist and hugged me. "Very much."
"What happened between you and Riley?"
"We broke up six months ago."
"Oh, I am sorry to hear that."
"I honestly wanted to reach out to you sooner, but I figured you moved on and found someone else."
"I've had no time for relationships." Despite being pregnant with Danny's child.
"Well, I would like to start over, Val."
"What do you mean?"
"We have a lot of catching up to do."
"Agreed. But I should get going."
"What? Why?"
"Because it's late."
Nico shook his head. "That's not necessary."
"Why?"
"Because you can spend the night with me."
"Are you sure that's a good idea?"
"Yes."
"But we haven't really spoken, and I think that it might be awkward."
Nico shook his head. "Nonsense. It'll be fine."
"As long as you don't plan on trying to do anything, I guess."
Nico smiled. "That's okay, I just want to spend some time with you for the night."
Nodding, I laid next to him, looking up at the ceiling. "Nico?"
"Yes?"
"This feels weird."
"What does, laying in a bed with me?"
"Yeah."
"This is not the only time, Valentina." He whispered in my ear.
After we talked for a short period of time, I slowly drifted off to sleep in Nico's arms, feeling slightly less stressed.
