Valentina

I went to the doctor's after work, questioning what would happen if I told Dr. Lapham that I've been taking over the counter pills. "Hello, Valentina."

"Hi, Dr. Lapham."

"What's been going on?"

"I've been feeling sad lately."

"Sad, how exactly?"

"I don't know, I've just felt... depressed, I guess. The stress of my split with my husband and the miscarriage has really put a mental toll on me."

"Have you done anything to try and help?"

"I've been taking medication for it, and..."

"Valentina, you can't do that. You need to speak to me so I can prescribe you medication if you are indeed depressed. Because it could be potentially harmful for you, and it could cause further issues."

After the appointment, Dr. Lapham had prescribed two medications for me in hopes of battling the depression and anxiety that she had diagnosed.

When I arrived at Nick's, I noticed the kids were playing in the backyard with Lia and her new boyfriend. "What's she doing here?"

"She stopped by to see the kids."

"Oh, okay."

"Are you alright? You seem... upset."

"Yeah, I'm fine."

"You sure?"

"Yeah."

"Well, Tom called and he's stopping by after he gets out of work."

"Oh. Okay."

"Are you sure that you're okay, Val?"

"Yeah, I'm going to take a shower."

After I went upstairs, I stood in the shower, wanting to cry. Not only did I lose the man that I loved but losing my child has really made things worse for me.

Tom

I arrived at Nick's, noticing that Valentina was not with him. "Where is she?"

"Taking a shower. I assume she's done now so she most likely is in the bedroom."

"Is everything okay?"

"I don't know."

"What's going on?"

"Ask her, I feel it would be best for her to tell you rather than me."

I went upstairs and opened the door, noticing Valentina crying on the bed. "Hey, what's wrong?"

She looked at me and wiped tears off her face with her sleeve. "N-nothing."

I sat down and grabbed her hand. "What's wrong?"

"I'm fine."

"Val, I know that you're not."

"I don't know."

"Honey, talk to me."

She turned away from me and shook her head. "Don't worry about it, Tom."

"Well, I was going to ask if you wanted to go to dinner or..."

"Not tonight."

"Oh. Umm okay. Well, I guess I'll see you later."

Valentina

I tossed and turned all night, not able to respond to any of Tom's texts or calls.

By the time I fell asleep, my alarm went off. I had to of only gotten three hours of sleep, knowing that I will be alone going through this again.

I got to work, and Micah could tell I was barely functioning. "Hey. Are you okay?"

"I don't want to talk about it."

"Val? Are you okay?"

I looked up and realized that Danny was standing in front of my desk. "Why do you care?"

"What's wrong?"

"You care, why?"

"Look, just because we aren't together doesn't mean..."

"I'm going through enough stress right now, Danny. I can't deal with you either. Besides, you don't want Katy seeing us having a conversation, do you?"

"I honestly don't care."

I got up and went down the hallway, realizing that Danny was behind me. "Danny, please stop following me."

"Follow me."

"No."

"Now, Valentina."

As usual, I agreed to follow him, and he shut the door behind him. "Talk to me."

"About what?"

"I'm still in love with you."

"Stop it, Danny."

"I fucked up, and I hate myself for it every single day and night. Sleeping with Katy is pointless because all I think of is you instead."

"I honestly wish I could believe that."

"I know Tom loves you, but he will never have the love that I have for you."

"Stop."

"No. It's the truth."

"I wish I could believe that."

Danny looked at me and grabbed my face, kissing me. "Danny, stop."

"You will always be mine, Val." He whispered in my ear. "You always have been and that will never change no matter what."

I shoved him off of me. "You have a fiancé and a wedding to focus on. Do me a favor and leave me alone."

The moment I left his office, my phone vibrated. "Tom?"

"You finally answer after the several calls and texts, Val. What the hell?"

"I have a lot going on."

"Well, stop pushing me away and tell me what's going on, Val."

"Why?"

"Because I love you, that's why and I feel that my fiancé should tell me what is going on."

"I know. But you worry too much."

"Well, what I wanted to ask was if you thought about my offer in terms of moving to Los Angeles."

"It's a huge decision to make."

"I am aware of that. But I would love for you to say yes. I want to move onto the next phase with you."

"I'll think about it. Okay?"

"Yes."

*** Two weeks later: After doing some thorough thinking, I felt that I made my mind up whether if I wanted to leave Austin and move to Los Angeles with Tom. I couldn't.
