Chapter 12

Valentina

I woke up the next morning, noticing Nico was not in bed. "Nico?"

I heard the door open and noticed he had a cup of coffee and two muffins in a small bag. "Hey." He handed me the cup of coffee and kissed my forehead. "How'd you sleep?"

"Good, I think. Did we do anything last night?"

Nico shook his head. "We talked and you fell asleep shortly after, that's all."

"Okay."

"Do you think that we could start over?"

"I'm not looking to have any relationship right now."

"That's completely okay with me."

"Are you sure?"

"We can take as much time as you would like, Valentina."

"I just have some things going on right now and it's really stressing me out."

He sat on the bed and placed his hand over mine. "What's going on?"

"I just found out that I am pregnant."

"Oh, you are?"

"Yeah."

"Oh."

"I didn't really want to tell you."

"Why's that?"

"I don't know, I just figured you wouldn't want to be a part of this, I guess."

"I am here for you no matter what, Val."

"Really?"

"Yeah. Like I said, I want a fresh start and I will be here for you the whole time."

"Thank you. I just am not looking for a relationship."

"That's okay, I promise and if you would rather only be just friends, we can do that too."

I appreciated Nico's offer, and I knew that he still had feelings for me despite what he did to me, but I still had to have Danny be a part of this, considering I am having his child and there was one thing I had to face: breaking the news to my brother.

Knowing I had to do it sooner than later, I left Nico's and prepared to have the conversation I was about to have with Nick.

"Hey, where were you?"

"I stayed at Micah's." If only he did know the truth.

"Alright."

"I have to tell you something."

"Sure."

"I dreaded having this conversation, but... I'm pregnant."

"Your pregnant?"

"Yeah."

"When did you find this out?"

"A few days ago."

"You're only 19 years old, Val."

"Please don't remind me."

"Who's the father?"

"I really need you to stay calm with me, okay?"

He raised his eyebrows. "Why would I be angry?"

"I wanted to hide this from you, but... Danny's the father."

"WHAT? Are you serious?"

"I know."

"What the hell were you thinking? What will Lia say when she finds out?"

"She won't."

"Let alone you work with Danny, what the hell?"

"I am aware."

"Well, you're old enough to figure things out and we all make our own decisions. I just hope this does not bite you in the ass, Val."

"Please don't report him or something, okay?"

"I have every reason to, but I know you wouldn't want to lose your job so I suppose I will keep my mouth shut."

"Thank you, Nick. I know it was wrong, but I can't take it back."

I was beyond relieved knowing he didn't react the way I thought he would, but I absolutely dreaded going to work tomorrow.
