It's not the exaggerated numbers of candles on the table or the extravagant lights hanging above the courtyard but it's the prettiest face Wichapas had seen tonight that made him blind.

Jakapan Puttha.

Wichapas had been calling his name in his mind ever since he saw the man enter the courtyard. Wearing a black tweed coat with fitted white inserts. Even the pearls he is wearing cannot outshine his beauty. His attractive features complemented the place very well. Everyone seems to fade and Wichapas is only focused on him.

Wichapas secretly smiled. What's happening to him? Why is he staring so much?

His heart skipped a beat when their eyes met. His gaze sent shivers to his spine. His mouth went dry and he felt a little cold. The weather must be teasing him. Or maybe it’s his own feelings.

Everybody started to take seats when the food started to arrive. Jakapan and his Dad, he supposed, sat side by side. Mr. Puttha talks to his friends while eating while the young man seems not interested in their topic as he focuses only on his food. Sitting several seats away, Wichaspas can’t help but to steal glances. The elegant fingers wrapped around the spoon and knife, the plump lips that accept the food and the dimples on his cheeks that occasionally appear in every bite.

Wichapas twitched uncomfortably when a pair of piercing eyes caught him. And a facial expression saying “what are you staring at?” is displayed. For the first time in his life, Wichapas felt the mixture of shock, nervousness and a pinch of joy. And it was still confusing for him.

After dinner, Wichapas felt a certain anger inside of him. The King never showed up. The rumors are untrue. It must be the cunning Lord Arphus who spread the news to the whole land in  order to catch everyone's attention.

Desperate. He told himself.

“So, the King never showed up.” one of the elites said.

Everybody is now seated. Some are getting ready to leave and some are still occupied with their business of finding potential partners.

“Oh! The rumors, yeah.” Lord Arphus displayed the most annoying smirk, as Wichapas could describe.

“Was it a decoy to have us all here tonight?” an elite woman, who screams wealth based on his clothes and exaggerated number of diamonds, laughed.

“That’s absurd.” Lord Arphus smiled but his eyes were piercing towards the woman. “I never officially announced that the King is coming. And I do not know where the information came from. But, I am glad the rumor was spread and I was able to meet a lot…” he took a glance at Jakapan. “..of people tonight.”

Wichapas clenched his fist for unknown reason. Maybe because he knows Lord Arphus very well, or he must say, everyone knows Lord Arphus very well. He is a cunning man who uses a lot of people for his own pleasure. He likes to fuck around. Might it be people’s mind or body, men or women. When he has his eyes on you, he will get you no matter what. Or maybe, Wichapas has other reasons that only he knows.

“Like Lord Wichapas.” Lord Arphus continues and all eyes are now on him. “It’s really nice to see that you are here with us tonight. Very rare scenario it is.”

Wichapas smile at everyone. The business smile. A smile that never reaches the eyes but enough to make a lot of elite children, men and women, drool over him.

“It's a shame to miss such an incredible event,” he said. “And to meet wonderful people, like you said.” and he glanced at Jakapan as well.

Build shifted uncomfortably on his seat. And his father is aware of what is going on.
