Everyone is settled in the dining room. Wichapas sitting on the head of the family chair at the end of the table, Build on his right side and the kids on his left side in their usual seats.
"Are we waiting for someone else?" Build examined the table.
The table is full of dishes, from meat to fish to vegetables. The dining table is almost full of different kinds of dishes that he is fully aware that it is too much. It is very impossible for the four of them to finish them all. And the table set up looks like some royalties will come and eat with them. The table was set with a porcelain set of plates with gold vintage patterns matching the serving plates and glassware. The silver utensils lay perfectly arranged.
"No. It's just us." Wichapas answered.
Build heard snickers from the housemaids and Prem who were on standby on the side.
"You are coming as a family friend so you don't have to be too formal about it."
Is this how they treat friends visiting their household? Or is this how their usual lunch goes everyday?
"Why are we using these plates? You said this is a collection." Tin curiously touched the plate in front of him and exhaled a soft 'whoa' upon touching the golden engraves.
"Let's just eat. Shall we?" Wichapas sighed again, thinking if he took this lunch too personal.
"Yes, sure." Build answered. He eyed the food once again. He is not sure which one to dig in first. He loves food but with this kind of set up? He is worried about messing it up. He might be familiar with this kind of situation but he is not really fond of it.
His attention was caught when one of the housemaids brought a dish. It's the one he brought from home.
"The dish Khun Jakapan brought earlier." And the housemaid smiled at him so he mouthed thank you.
"You brought something? You didn't have to." Wichapas eyed him with knotted eyebrows.
"I was invited by Lord Wichapas to his mansion. It's a shame to come empty handed." Build smiled at him and switched his attention to the kids. "I made this for you."
The kids smiled and asked to have some, excited. But Wichapas seems like he's not so happy about the fact that he's not included. Build was about to reach the dish but he realized he was too far from where the kids are seated because the dining table is too big for the four of them to reach each other easily.
"I'll do it, Khun." A housemaid fished the dish. She served Wichapas first, of course, and then Build before serving the kids.
Build is really not used to this. He liked eating casually. Putting his own food on his plate, like how he used to.
Wichapas and the kids started eating, making Build nervous. Would they like it?
The kids smiled at him and put their thumbs up for approval. Build smiled and relaxed a little before turning his attention to Wichapas who was staring intently at the dish on his plate, slowly chewing.
He didn't like it? Why is he quiet? Does it not taste good? Build's stomach formed a coil inside.
Slowly, Wichapas looked at him with a small smile. "My mom used to always cook red curry for my dad before. It's his favorite."
Build's eyes widened. Thinking that maybe he didn't reach the man's expectations.
"W-well... This is the first time I cooked red curry s-so..." Build trailed off weakly.
"It tastes like my mom's cooking."
Build jolted on his seat a little. The coil on his stomach started to loosen. He examined the man's face for possible signs of a lie. Maybe he just said it out of courtesy. But Wichapas' eyes are telling him that it's true and he believed him. So he smiled wholeheartedly, feeling so grateful. It was more than a compliment.
