The nurses and nursing aids wheeled inside the enormous and state-of-the-art cardio surgery operating room a stretcher in which a slumbered patient ready for surgery that night. naturokan na ito ng general anesthesia before the actual surgery. The relatives of the patient tailed by, but the nurse on duty hindered them from entering beyond the hazard line of the said hospital facility.

"you can just wait here, Ma'am. The surgeon will be with you the moment your patient's operation is done." the nurse explained to the worried relatives. "there's a nearby Cafeteria if you need to relax and eat while waiting. Thank you for your cooperation, Ma'am."

"b-but Ma'am Nurse, w-will my Husband be alright? Is he... going to make it?" the patient's wife asked, her wrinkled hands obviously shaking in fear, trying to get a peek inside the slightly ajar door of the OR.

the veteran nurse and operation assistant just gave a light tap on the old woman's shoulder and smiled a little.

" only the Surgeon can answer that, Ma'am. I'll just be assisting him on the procedure." the Nurse replied. "but prayers will help a lot, so you could also go to our chapel to pray, Ma'am. I'll go ahead po."

nakaka-unawang tumango ang ginang at naupo sa isa sa mga metal connecting chairs na naduon. katabi ng ginang ang anak nito na syang nagbabantay sa asawa habang naka-confine ito sa ospital.

"mahabaging Ama, nawa'y maging matagumpay po ang operasyon sa aking asawa. gusto ko pa po syang makasama, nakikiusap po ako sa inyo..."

ang dalangin ng ginang habang nasa loob ng operating room ang asawa, umaasang tagumpay sana ang operasyon nito.

the surgical lights are on, everybody is on standby. nasa gawing likuran ang mga anesthesiologist, medical device representatives at ang mga junior at senior residents ng pribado at prestihiyusong ospital. nasa kaliwang bahagi ng pasyente ang head surgeon, nasa kanan naman ang isa pang surgeon na syang magsisilbing surgical tech ng nauna.

nasa tabi ng lead surgeon ang dalawang CRNA o ang certified registered nurse anesthetist at tatlong OR or circulating nurses.

naka-organize din ang lahat sa loob ng pasilidad, lalo na ang mga biohazard waste cans na nakapwesto malapit sa kinatatayuan ng Surgeon, assistant nya at ng mga nurses.

"vitals?"

The lead surgeon inquired, as the OR Nurse put on his hand the pair of surgical gloves.

"blood pressure is stable at 170/90, glucose range is 90 mg/dl in the perioperative period, including urine test, x-ray and EKG. both AVP and CVP are looking good. patient is cleared and ready for surgery, Doc." the CRNA reported, closing the patient's chart, handing it to the junior resident.

" let's proceed then. prepare blood bags and make sure to ready all necessary equipments in case of sudden medical relapse." utos ng surgeon. "we'll start. Sign in, 9:25 PM."

The lead surgeon look at the co-surgeon on the other side of the prep table, nodding his head. the other doctor gave a thumbs up and nodded in return.

"laser scalpel, #31."

the surgeon ordered in his firm, commanding and stern voice. The OR nurse is quick to hand the equipment, careful not to make any mistake. this surgeon's temperament is notorious in all the corners of this medical institution--- He's never tolerant of any mishaps inside the operating room, not when he's the one in charge of the surgery. alamat sa buong ospital ang matalas nitong memorya sa pago-opera, singtalas din ng dila nito kapag may nagkamali itong staff, kahit gaano pa kaliit ang pagkakamaling iyun.
