"Do you see them?"
"They're so beautiful."
Agnett said looking at the sonographic footage of tiger cubs on the projection screen. She was on a day-long wildlife trip with her college batch at New York's wildlife sanctuary.
They were here for a project regarding the knowledge and supervision of wildlife. Including the gestation in different mammals, the conception complexities and animal baby care. Agnett loved this part of her studies because it always felt like a miracle to her.
"What's the gestation period of different mammals?" A student raised his hand.
"Well, it differs from their structure and reproduction cycle. Let's take the mouse as an example. Its gestation period is very short which is around 20 days and they reproduce...in every two months." The teacher smiled.
"Greedy much." Another student made a comment causing everyone to laugh hysterically.
"Silence! On the other hand, elephants are known as the biggest mammal of the land and a female elephant holds the baby inside her womb for quite a long time. It takes around 18-22 months for Asians and 22 months for African elephants to fully develop before birth."
"Why does it take so much time?" Agnett raised a question.
"It's because of the size differentiation. Gestation period varies from sizes and types of the creature. Like humans, they have a 9 month pregnancy because it is an adequate time for the baby to develop. Elephants are hundred times bigger than humans, so obviously it'll be a long process for them to develop the fetus." She explained as everyone nodded.
Everyone wrote down the notes as the teacher gave lecture on their topic. Soon the class ended and all the students were led out of the sanctuary to the nearby cattle for practical knowledge. They showed the differences between a pregnant and a normal cow.
The awareness and attention should be given during this period of time from their nutrition to environmental maintenance.
"This cattle has been made by the NVSI of our New York city. Here we'll discuss some precautions and details which should be taken significantly."
They took the notes as she gave information. "How can we determine their early pregnancy?" A student asked.
"Good question. There are some factors that can be used to determine their pregnancy. First, their bump doesn't show until 3 or 4 months…"
The teacher carried on with the topic and the trip ended around 6 in the evening.
Agnett packed her things before thanking the teacher and waited out in the street for a cab. It was a long busy day and she was feeling tired. It's been a month since the hospital incident and everything felt normal to her relief.
"Hey! Are you headed to X13 street?"
"Sorry miss, I'm heading to another one." The 4th driver replied before driving off.
Annette sighed and waited more. Everyone was by themselves on the trip and she came taking the cab. It was getting late and she was getting anxious. Her phone was dead too.
Worse timing.
She finally managed to get a ride back to her home. She made sure that Kayden knew her location all the way back to her home. Kayden was at his aunt's house so she had to go alone.
Thankfully, the driver was in his mid fourties and he was decent enough to trust. "Thank you."
"No worries. Good night." He replied before driving off.
