I looked into Harvey's concerned eyes, appreciating his protective nature. Taking a deep breath, I began to explain what had happened.
"Well, I tripped and was about to fall, but Frank and Nicholas caught me. In the process, Frank's hand accidentally touched my mate mark. It triggered something... strange. It was like a flood of memories and emotions from both you and Frank. I saw moments from Frank's memories but felt your presence, too. It was overwhelming, but it didn't last long. I'm still not entirely sure what happened, but I'm okay now, I promise."
Harvey's face softened, his relief evident as he pulled me closer. "I'm so glad you're okay," he said, his voice gentle. "But please, be careful. I can't bear the thought of you getting hurt." He kissed my forehead tenderly, his warmth grounding me.
"When you spoke to me," I said, meeting his gaze, "I could hear it in my head. What made you do that?"
Harvey exhaled, his brow furrowing slightly. "I was really worried—why he was that close to you, why he was able to touch your mark, and why it triggered his memories. So, I just... reacted. I wanted to know if you were okay, and instinctively, I reached out. I didn't expect it to work like that, but somehow, you heard me."
I nodded, still marveling at the newfound connection between us. "It was incredible, Harvey. But also a little overwhelming."
Harvey's expression was thoughtful. "It looks like we're going to have to be more careful. Now we know the mate mark connects you in ways we didn't understand before—letting you see others' memories and putting you in that vulnerable state around males who aren't your mate. We'll have to figure out how to control it, if that's even possible, or at least figure out how to manage it."
"I agree. We need to observe how this ability develops over time. But right now, it's exhausting. I already felt drained from the day, but this? It's on another level. Just standing and assuring the guys I was okay felt monumental. Honestly, I faked it," I admitted, releasing a heavy sigh as I reclined on the bed.
Harvey then climbed over me, rubbing his head and ears against my hands and arms. He started rolling his body over mine, and I couldn't help but giggle, thoroughly confused.
"What are you doing—" Before I could finish, he flipped me over and continued his rolling. Laughter bubbled up within me, caught entirely off guard.
"It's too many male scents on you and in this house. I have to get rid of it," he explained, his tone serious but his actions adorable.
I was too tired to argue, finding his leopard-like possessiveness endearing. I let him have his way; it was both amusing and sweet to see this side of him.
I must have been really tired because when I woke up, it was the next day. I was in my muu-muu and under some furs. Harvey must have changed me. I even missed him getting out of bed.
I got up, freshened up, and got dressed. When I came out, there was food and drink on the table. I smiled, sat down, and ate.
After breakfast, I stepped outside and was met with the sight of building materials everywhere.
"What's going on, my love?" I asked.
Harvey looked at me, and my heart fluttered. He was so fine. His shoulders were broader, and did he get taller? His walk had always been calm and smooth, but now there was a new power in his stride—manly, confident, and purposeful.
It was as if he was evolving before my eyes, looking more refined, more... sexy. I closed my eyes and exhaled deeply, trying to keep my thoughts in check.
He smiled and walked closer, saying, "Getting ready to build the house on a higher platform," as he reached out, tilted my face up, and gently rubbed his thumbs over my cheeks.
