Story:
By the time I woke up, Harvey was already out, tending to last-minute preparations for our move. The amount of things we'd accumulated since I first arrived had tripled—furs, crystals, tools, food, herbs, vegetables, and more. It seemed like we had everything imaginable. Another wagon had to be built just to carry it all.
Memi, my bestie, wasn't here; she was busy preparing for King Calum's return. A messenger bird had arrived, announcing he'd be home in a few days. With all the new inventions and ideas I'd shared, Memi wanted to showcase them to him. Her main focus? A bed—crafted with special materials sent ahead just for the occasion. James and her other mates were at the castle, tackling a long list of building assignments in preparation for Calum's return.
Meanwhile, the guys and I worked on tying up loose ends. I'd set up a plan to stay connected with the ladies and their mates once I was stationed in my new home. Harvey's medical mentorship would continue, and I was also preparing for future events and visits.
Ever since returning to Camel Hump, life had been a whirlwind. The houses were finally complete, and I had to admit, the craftsmanship was impressive. A canal had even been dug to redirect potential flash floods—a brilliant addition that made the area safer.
Despite the progress, I was utterly exhausted. Classes had ended a week ago, but the workload hadn't let up. We still hadn't picked a house in the City of Beast. Honestly, I didn't want to stay there permanently, but I'd made a promise to save as many lives as possible before the city faced its inevitable doom. To do that, I needed to establish a presence there and build a reputation.
Reflecting on everything, I felt proud. Camel Hump had flourished. Agriculture was thriving, homes were stable and secure, and the community was stronger than ever. We were like a family, united and moving forward together.
Harvey and the guys must have noticed how drained I was because they insisted I take a break. For once, I listened, staying home to rest. Everything was packed and ready to go; all they needed to do was load the wagons and finish constructing the extra one. With that, they were out all day, leaving me to enjoy some much-needed rest.
It felt strange to have a moment to myself, but as I lay back on the soft furs, the stillness was comforting. Even amidst the chaos of preparation, I realized how far we'd come. The road ahead was daunting, but with Harvey, our friends, and the bonds we'd built, I knew we could face whatever came next.
The girls came over to say their goodbyes, and as soon as Katie saw me, she exclaimed, "Imara, I'm going to miss you!" She hugged me tightly, patting my butt like it was her favorite habit now.
I chuckled, rubbing her head affectionately. "I'm going to miss you too, my crazy girl. And all of you," I said, looking at the girls' sad faces.
A pang of sadness hit my heart. "But it's not goodbye," I reassured them. "You all can always visit me. Just send word, and we'll plan it out."
Sarah, swaying a little as if unsure of what to say, finally spoke up, "Yeah, but it just won't be the same. You've changed my life, Imara, and it's going to feel lonely not seeing you come down the road saying, 'Hey babes, sweetie pies,' or giving hugs with that pretty smile of yours." She hugged me tightly, and I hugged her back, feeling the sincerity in her words.
