Raine's POV:
It's been 3 weeks, we can't find her.
We've got so many people searching. Darius, Eber, Lilith, Hooty, Eda, Amity, Willow, Gus, all their families... but nothing.
Hunter lost full control when Mipha was taken, he's been in the basment destroying everything. No one can get close without being attacked, we leave food for him but other than that, he's unaproachable. I wanted to tell Luz what happened, but Eda said not to. Luz is doing exams in the human realm, her first semester of her senior year coming to an end. One semester left.
Eda knows that if any of us tell her about Mipha, she'll skip her exams and come to help, which would make her have to repeat her senior year. No one wants that so we all agreed to not tell Luz until AFTER her exams conclude.Lilith has been in shambles, she blames herself because she feels she took too long to return with Eda and the Elixer's. She's worked herself to the bone, she hasn't slept, she barely eats, she's always out searching. Seems Willow is in a similar state... Mipha and Willow are best friends, any oportunity given- Willow was here or Mipha was at her house. Gus has managed to help Willow, making her take care of herself alongside the frantic search, but none of us have had such luck with aiding Lilith. Not even Hooty has been able to help her.
We tried to use Hunter's Oracle gem to try and contact Mipha, but whoever has her mustve taken her's from her.
Eda and Amity are currently out searching for ingrediants for a Scrying potion. Hooty will be getting the fire bee honey with King and Willow. I was here, waiting patiently while preparing food and marking the maps we had sprawled out in the living room of the places we've searched for her.
I sat down with a cup of tea, looking over the maps before the door opened, Willow walking in with King as Hooty gave me the honey before leaving to find Lilith again."Has Hunter been fed?" She asked, Waffles sitting in her hair. Willow's been caring for the Blue Jay, all of us grateful for her kindness and care. Eda has Celeste, Owlbert's company has been comforting to the snowy owl.
I shook my head, standing up and preparing to go downstairs with her before the door glowed and burst open, Luz charging through and crashing into the wall."I'M HERE TO HELP! MAMA TOLD ME EVERYTHING AFTER MY EXAM! STRINGBEAN LET'S GO!" She shouted and mounted her staff, about to fly off before we stopped her.
"Hang on Luz! Everyone else is searching! Raine may need help here at home base!" Willow urged as Luz took a second before getting off her staff and staring at us.
"Where's Hunter? He's probably taking this hard..." she kicked a rock on the floor, watching it roll towards King. I took a deep breath before clearing my throat.
"We're actually about to go feed him" I sighed, Luz seeming confused before she quietly followed us to the basement. We soundproofed the basement so that his constant growling, roaring, and destruction wouldn't interupt anyones sleep or concentration.I opened the door, this unleashing the noises as Luz jumped in surprise.
"W-What...?!" She shuttered as Willow took her hand. We went downstairs, King bringing the plate of food and bucket of water as I flicked the lightswitch, making Hunter more visable.
He roared at us, charging but bashing into the forcefield we put up. He kept trying to attack, whining and growling."How long has he been like this...?" Luz asked, watching Willow and King slide the food and water through a small gap I created in the barrier. Hunter attacked it, throwing the food everywhere as the water spilled on the ground, making him angrier.
"3 weeks... he's so blinded by rage and sadness that he doesn't recognize any of us. He thinks we're all the enemies since he doesn't know who we are. We've had to keep him down here so he won't attack the city..." I sighed, watching Hunter desperately attack the barrier, then trying to break the walls to get out."No one's been able to give him elixers... we try but he just spills them everywhere" King frowned, hugging Luz's leg.
She looked at him, tears hitting her eyes as Waffles moved to her shoulder, snuggling her.
"Luz?" I asked, letting her console herself and turn to me.
"They've been through so much... why can't Hunter or Mipha just live happily without being attacked...?" She asked quietly, placing a hand on the barrier and not flinching when Hunter tried to attack her.
She was right, and it hurt. No matter how hard I tried, her childhood was nothing but hard and traumatic. Even now, Eda and I struggle to help give her a good life. Now she's missing, dead for all we know, and Hunter is left in this beastly state, unable to control himself. He could be stuck like this forever... his life could be over if we can't find Mipha or change him back. He's worked so hard for his life with Mipha, he renovated an entire house for my daughter and himself to grow old and have a family in. I just... don't know how to help them. The abuse they've endured... it should've ended when Belos died, but here we are, 3 years later and they still endure the abuse of him and his actions from beyond the grave. Many resent them for their previous Golden Guard statuses, but many also know Belos forced them to, and they are not bad people.
I'm worried someone knew Mipha was a Golden Guard and have taken her for some revenge schtick. There's twisted people out there and I'm scared Mipha is in extreme danger. What if she's already dead..."Hunter stop!" Willow screamed as Hunter started breaking the barrier, cracking it and bashing into it over and over and over as the cracks grew in size. I summoned Fiddlesticks as my viola and tried to strengthen the barrier but it wasn't enough because Hunter quickly broke through. He threw us all to the side, bounding up the stairs and letting out a piercing roar. I got up, running after him before I saw him leave the house and run towards town.
I mounted my staff and chased him, Willow and Luz soon following as we raced Hunter, who had now taken off and was flying to town. I feared he would attack the people in town, getting ready to whistle before Willow whized passed and shook her head once she gently smacked my hand away from my mouth.
"He didn't attack us! He might be looking for Mipha! He's not a witch right now! Maybe his beast form has hightened senses and can help us!" She yelled over the wind, letting me think before nodding and swooping down to follow Hunter as he landed in his front yard. He sniffed the ground, huffing as we landed behind him, giving him his space.
"I'll open the front door so he won't wreck it" Willow whispered, carefully going around Hunter and using the key I quickly handed to her to open the door, stepping away as Hunter kept sniffing the ground. He noticed the open door, walking inside as I told Luz to get Eda and the other's over here. I had a feeling Hunter knew something we didn't. What I don't understand is that he's acting so docile after a whole 3 weeks of pure malice and hostility.
I mean just 20 minutes ago he was trying to attack us.
I had a thought, walking closer to Hunter to test my theory. He looked to me, and to my surprise he began to purr, nuzzling my hand."How long have you known who we all are...?" I asked, knowing I wouldn't get a straight answer, until he walked to the kitchen to the calender, gently tapping his claw on a day.
"3 days ago... you haven't been trying to attack us... you wanted us to let you out... did you just not like the food we were giving you?" I chuckled, nearly snorting as Hunter nodded his head, telling me he didn't like the food we had been giving him, and just wanted out. Everything made sense now, Hunter has no control over his transformations. If he had abilities in this form that could help, taking an elixer would lessen the chance of success.
I kept going over everything in my head as Hunter went upstairs and into his and Mipha's bedroom. Willow and I followed, Luz talking to Eda on her scroll. We walked in, seeing Hunter sniffing around before getting to Mipha's side of the bed and barking at us, gently taking something in his mouth."Skittles..." I recognized the stuffed rabbit in his jaws, he nodded, plopping it on the ground and sniffing it. His eye's glowed a bright golden color, and he looked out the window, about to crash through it before we all stopped him.
"WOAH WOAH WOAH! HUNTER WAIT!" I yelled, he stopped, huffing at me and letting out a growl, he wanted me to get out of the way.
"Hunter, we should wait for the others! Are you tracking her scent? You can find her?" Willow asked, Hunter nodding with a loud bark as I heard a commotion from downstairs."Sounds like Eda's here, Hunter- You can lead us to Mipha?" He nodded again as I gave a confident smile, letting him walk passed us and down the stairs. Eda looked at me, tears in her eyes as we filled her in. Soon enough we had everyone: Darius, Eber, Eda, Luz, Amity, Willow, Gus, Vee, Lilith, Hooty, King, Hunter, and myself.
"Raine, we're sure Hunter knows where she is?" Darius asked as I grabbed Skittles and brought it to Hunter to sniff again before his eyes glowed and I put Skittles in Willow's satchel.
"He's seeing things we aren't in this form, he's confident, and what else have we got to lose? Nothing we've tried before has worked" I sighed, feeling my anxiety bubble in my chest. I hope she's ok."Princess is strong... and if Hunter's right, we're coming for her" he assured me, squeezing my shoulder as Willow got on Hunter's back in case he needs another refresh from the stuffed rabbit. We all got ready, elixer's, potions, everything we'd need, we got it.
Hang on sweetheart.
We're coming.
