AU: you are Jake's sister

You woke up this morning, feeling a little chill in your room beyond your blanket. As you slowly arrived in the waking world, you realized something: it had snowed overnight, and outside your window, everything was white. You hurried to get out of bed, although you didn't plan to get dressed just yet. Your oversized pajama rustled slightly as you made your way to the other bedroom: your brothers bedroom. You snuck inside, crawled under the blanket and nuzzled close to him. Everest noticed you and decided to join as well. On such cold nights like yesterday night, she slept inside the house, often choosing to sleep with you or in Jakes room.

Speaking of Jake, he stirred a little as you nuzzled close to him. "Y/n? What are you doing in my room?" He asked, still a little drowsy. "It's Christmas, Jake!" you said, and Everest agreed: "Yeah! now get up and make me some food! I can't reach the shelf!" You and Everest knew that you meant the world to Jake. Everest, the snow rescue pup, had come to like you as well. You clearly remembered how Jake brought her home from his trip, and how happy she was that she had finally found a friend and something to do. But as she figured out that you were Jakes sister, she was even happier. You remember how Everest had asked about why you still lived with Jake, and you had answered that it was cheaper, because you didn't have to pay rent.

Jake meanwhile, tried to go back to sleep. However, as he rolled away from you, he fell out of bed. "Ouch! What the.." you and Everest just laughed and darted away from Jake, running to your room. "Y/n?" "Yes, Everest? Is there something on your mind?" you asked as you looked through your closest for something comfy to wear. "Yes actually.." "What is it?" "It's about this whole Christmas thing.. can you tell me what you traditionally do?" You smiled at the Husky pup and began to explain that you and Jake usually visited Ryder and the other puppies at the lookout, to eat dinner and after dinner, there were presents for everybody. "Wait, really?!" "Yes. Don't worry, I am sure Jake has something for you." Everests face lit up and she jumped at you. You caught her and she nuzzled closer to you. "You'll love it Everest, I promise." you said as you scratched her ears.

"Y/n! Hurry up and open the car!" Jake yelled. He was standing next to your car, ready to go. "On my way!" you said as you hurried outside. You unlocked the car and Jake got in on the passengers side. Everest had jumped on his lap, while you sat down on the drivers side. You revved the cars engine and began to drive down to Adventure Bay. You were really exited to see the puppies and Ryder, since Ryder was your age, meaning he was sixteen like you, you loved to spent time with him. But it was not just because he was your age. "Y/n, you're blushing." "W-Wha? Me? Blushing?" "Yes, you were." Everest agreed with Jake, but then you three just chuckled and you brushed it off as a trick of the light.

Adventure Bay looked so much better with the snowy coat of white. You realized this every year anew, every time when it snowed, the little town looked so much more romantic and peaceful. Even the Lookout was... you'd put it as "gentle", as the building was covered with snow, it looked less like the base of the towns heroes, and more... more like... a cozy home. You three barely got out of the car, when Everest darted away to greet Marshall and Skye, completely dashing past Zuma. You and Jake greeted Skye, Marshall and Zuma as well, and then you carried a few bags from the car to the lookout. "Rubble, what did I say about food? Not until everyone gets something" you heard Ryders voice. Rubble left the kitchen mere seconds later, but his face lit up when he saw you. "Y/n! Can you tell Ryder to give me some food?" you chuckled and brought the bags to the kitchen.

"Hello N/n, I hope you don't mind the mess?" "Nah, you're good" you chuckled, giving Ryder a high five. "Yo buddy! Hands off my sister!" Jake joked around, causing all three of you to laugh. "Don't worry Jake. I man pretty sure Y/n will tell me if she isn't comfortable with something" Ryder said, and you appreciated that the three of you could share such simple moments together. "Y/n!" Chase came running to you, jumping into your arms. The German Shepard definitely liked you the most out of all the other puppies. "Hello Chase, is there something on your mind?" "Just happy to see you. By the way, I wanted to show you this one super cool toy!" And just like that, Chase jumped down from your arms. His tail wagged excitedly as you followed him out of the kitchen.

In the living room, Chase brought you to a quiet corner. Skye was sitting there too, she was holding a plushie in her paws. "We all got these super cool plushies!" she exclaimed, presenting her plush to you. "Wow... those are indeed nice." "Right?" Chase then cleared his throat: "So... Y/n... it's about something we have noticed." "What is it?" "Well... I don't know if you know, but Ryder has a crush on you. He keeps denying it but it's so obvious" Skye whispered. "Do enlighten me, how did you figure it out?" "You see... whenever you aren't looking at Ryder, his eyes linger on you a little bit longer than on Katie for example. He allows you to hug him whenever you like, and let me tell you, Katie does not have this privilege" Chase added. His voice was a hushed whisper, but his eyes gleamed with excitement. "So.. you are saying that Ryder has feelings for me?" "Yes! it is so obvious!" Skye whisper-yelled. "Don't say anything though. He believes he is doing well with hiding his emotions." "I mean... without you telling me, I wouldn't have noticed for sure" you admitted.

Gossip aside, it was soon time for dinner. Thinking about what Chase and Skye said earlier, you paid more attention to how Ryder treated you. During dinner, there was nothing unusual, but when dinner was done, you started to notice something: as you helped Ryder put away the dishes, your fingers touched and he recoiled. He mumbled something which sounded like a "Sorry" before going back to putting the dishes into the dishwasher. you thought that it was weird to have such a reaction, until you turned around. Because right there behind you, was your brothers Jake. "Jake?! Why are you standing there like a creepy ass bitch?!" your older brother just chuckled: "No reason. I am just keeping an eye on my lil sis." "I am not a baby Jake, I can handle myself" you said as you made your way past him.

As soon as you left the kitchen, Jake turned to Ryder: "I am saying this only once, mate: you break my sisters heart, and I will ruin you." "I know. But what if she is into someone else?" "I don't care. If someone messes with her feelings, they'll regret the day they were born" jakes voice was but a mere growl, his brown eyes seemed to stare into Ryders soul. However, Everest came to Ryders rescue, as she pawed at Jake: "Come on Jake! The gifts won't open themselves!"
