On our way to the Astronomy Tower, Mattheo and I bypass the courtyard.
The centre tree casting a vast shadow across the cobblestones. No one is around, so the yard is silent. A foreboding silence.
The moonlight spills over the castles walls and torrents.
As we walk, Mattheo and I are silent. Whenever I look over at him, his expression is either anger or non-existent. A sense of emptiness fills his brown eyes. Dark circles forming under his eyes.
As we advance the stairs that circle the inside of the Astronomy Tower, I notice that the smell of cigarettes and alcohol are stronger than usual.
I stop for a minute and Mattheo Does to.
"What's wrong?" he asks.
"What happened, Mattheo?" I ask.
"Don't answer my question with another question, Eleria." Mattheo says with a tone so harsh that I fall back a step.
"Mattheo...: I begin.
"I am sorry." He whispers.
"It's okay." I say, placing a hand on his shoulder, then pulling it back to my side when he flinches. "He gave you and Tom a task, didn't he?"
