Miss Tessburger: Ugh, Elizabeth. I’ve had three staffers try to get a hold of you all day! Why weren’t you answering?
Eliza: I was at school.
Miss Tessburger: This is politics, Elizabeth! Learn to multitask! Have you even seen the new polls? Your father is down. We’re within the margin of error and you’re doing everything you can to fuck things up! It’s like you don’t care about this campaign at all.
Eliza: Wow, Miss Tessburger, it's like that, isn't it?
[Solomon arrives]
Solomon: Well, well. If it isn’t my October surprise. Eliza, next time you go to cheat, do it like a Lauter and don’t get caught.
Eliza: I wouldn't have gotten caught if it were that nerdy boy-
Solomon: Elizabeth, please, I’d like to have an intelligent conversation with you. In other words, shut up.
Miss Tessburger: Yeah, shut up.
Solomon: You, out.
[Miss Tessburger walks away]
Solomon: Elizabeth, do you have any idea what’s coming up in a mere matter of weeks?
Eliza: The election?
Solomon: The election. You know I had to personally call your principal this afternoon? Did you know they wanted to suspend you? Imagine how that would’ve reflected on me? The mayor’s daughter, a deviant, a flunky. We came to an arrangement. They’re not going to punish you, but I am. You will raise your grades or else.
Eliza: Or else? How ominous. What are you gonna do, ground me? Like I won’t just sneak out. Face it, old man, there’s nothing you can punish me with.
Solomon: Oh really? Miss Tessburger.
[Miss Tessburger comes back, handing Solomon Eliza's phone]
Eliza: Hey, that looks like my…phone..
Solomon: It is.
Eliza: Hey, be careful with that, dad. Okay? Please daddy?
Solomon: Oh, I’ll be careful with this. I’ll carefully smash it with this hammer.
Eliza: You wouldn’t. Not even you would do something that evil! You know all my pictures are on there!
Solomon: I’ve found a weak spot, haven’t I? Your whole generation’s enthralled to these fucking boxes, little app junkies.
[He chuckles]
Solomon: I'm going to free you out of it Eliza..
[He raises the hammer]
Eliza: No!
[She puts her hand between it. Solomon puts the hammer down]
Solomon: Did you just put your hand between the hammer and your phone?
[She backs away]
Eliza: Yeah..
Solomon: Smartphones are for smart girls, not little dumb dumbs. You can have this back once you’ve raised your grades, I don’t care if you have to lie, cheat, steal or shock of all shocks, read a book for once in your life.
Eliza: How am I supposed to study without listening to Spotify? Do you even know what you’re doing? You’re killing me with what you’re doing!
[Eliza walks away, enraged]
