[The scene changes to the theater, Alexander is shown, having a imaginary bird on his finger, then lets it fly off]

Alexander: Here’s the thing about a barbecue. It brings folks together from all walks of life. There’s a story behind every patty. Every kabob. I hope these stories tonight are a lot like these patties here. Well done.

[He flips a imaginary patty with a imaginary spatula]

Alexander: You hear that? That’s the sound of love.

Lafayette: Family..

Theodosia: Passion...

James: Betrayal..

Lafayette: I just wanna make him happy..

Theodosia: I just want my neighbor to finally notice me!

James: I wanna remember who I am!

Alexander: This is the story of my barbecue..

Lafayette: My barbecue.

Theodosia: My barbecue..

James: My barbecue!

Alexander: These are our-

All: Barbecue Monologues!

Miss Mulberry: Oh! Great job, guys! Uh, Theodosia?

Theodosia: Yeah?

Miss Mulberry: Uh, can you give me a little more heart when you say ‘my barbecue

Theodosia: Mhm, okay.

Miss Mulberry: And Maria?! I think we missed a light cue!

Maria: Well someone said the cue line wrong! It’s supposed to be ‘I want to remember who I used to be' James! I I lose my spot when they don’t stick to the script.

Miss Mulberry: Alright everyone, let’s take 10 and places for the start of the show.

All four: Take ten!

[They walk away, warming up]

Miss Mulberry: And Maria! We need to refocus that light centre stage, you think you can handle it?

Maria: I guess! God…gotta do everything around here!

[She gets on the stage]

Maria: Whoa. So this is what it’s like, huh? To be in the spotlight, instead of the booth. Betcha I could do it. Betcha I could. At least as well as Theo! I could act. If it weren’t for my anxiety. And my greasy skin. And my rainforest pits! Ugh! In my dreams, I’m the star of the show. In my dreams, it’s my barbecue.
