Rain pattered against the ground like a relentless heartbeat and I squinted, lifting my hand to shield my eyes from the rain and glare at the stormy lake below. The waves crashed against the rocks like a loud roar and I flinched, looking back at Nya, who was looking at the water as if she was hypnotized.

"Are you sure you want to go down there?" I yelled to be heard above the howling wind.

"The weather isn't suitable for much swimming. I sure hope that isn't what you came down here for." Kai commented dryly, leaned underneath a tree, trying to get out of the rain even though he was soaking wet already.

I raised an eyebrow, "I don't think that trying to get out of the rain now would do you any good, Kai."

Kai sighed and then slicked his soaked hair back, stepping out onto the paved stairs of the monastery. "Remind me how you convinced me to get out here, sis?" He raised an eyebrow at Nya, who finally jerked her eyes away from the sea and looked over at us.

"I needed to practice. Harness the water. The weather is perfect for that." Nya explained to us, ignoring Kai's question. "Besides," she tossed a grin to us, "I think that you'll enjoy not being soaked when I protect you."

"Yes, that would be nice, but how did you convince me to come down here?" Kai repeated his question and Nya brushed a strand of wet hair back. I sighed and then grabbed the end of my shirt, twisting it together to squeeze some of the water out of the black fabric.

"You said you were worried about me." Nya said, her eyes drifting back to the water.

"Oh yes, I did say that." Kai let out the heaviest sigh I've heard him let out. "Let's go down to the lake, then. Everyone watch your step, alright?"

I snorted, "Make sure that you watch yours, Kai. You always end up tripping when it comes to situations like these."

Kai glared at me, "So... someone is going to end up slipping down the stairs today..."

"Oh, please. You wish you were that fast." I teased with a grin, brushing my braid back and Kai matched my grin.

"You better watch out, Livvy." Kai taunted and Nya looked over her shoulder at us.

"You coming?" She asked and we hurried after her, both making sure to watch our step. The stairs were slick, almost making me fall backwards, but I made sure to hold my ground, stiffening my steps so that I won't just flop down like a deflated balloon.

Once we reached the bottom of the steps and were starting our trek towards the lake, I turned my head and looked over at the sky, which looked like it was a light gray. Rain poured down on us and clouds blocked out the sun. We reached the coast and then we stopped walking.

"Whoa." I gasped when I saw the ocean crash against the rocks, sending a spray of water over our already soaking forms. "This is... beautiful."

"WHAT?!" Kai bellowed in my ear and I jumped back, wrinkling my nose at him while I massaged the shell of my ear.

"No need to yell." I muttered.

"Sorry!" Kai yelled, still equally loud. "I got water clogged in my ears!"

"I can tell." I raised an eyebrow and shook my head, my wet braid ensnaring itself around my neck before I pried it off with a grimace.

"WHAT DID YOU SAY?!" Kai screamed back.

I facepalmed, "Oh, for hell's sake." I grabbed Kai's shoulder and yanked it down until his ear was right next to my lips and I screamed, "I SAID I CAN TELL YOU HAVE WATER STUCK IN YOUR EARS!! NO NEED TO YELL!"
