"Somebody help!" A voice shrieked and I looked down at the ground below me. In a dark alley, a figure was being shoved around while more bigger figures surrounded it, pushing at the small figure.
"Welp." I sighed, breathing in through my nose. "Time to tackle another bad guy case. Or should I say chase?" I giggled at my own bad joke, making my dragon roll her violet eyes. I cleared my throat and then said, "You up for this, Luna?"
Luna rolled her eyes up at me and then chuffed in confirmation she was ready.
"That's my girl." I praised her before I let go of the reins, making Luna bank down towards the ground, her wings tucked in to prevent the wind from pushing her back. She landed on the ground with a loud thud and the large figures looked up. They had pale skin, dark circles underneath their eyes, and tattoos dotting their arms. They were just some average street thugs.
"Hi, guys." I leapt off of Luna and crossed my arms, raising an eyebrow. "What's up?"
"Aw, would you look at that?" One of the goons sneered, "It's a cute little girl on a big, fancy dragon." The goon's eyes bored into mine, "What do you think you're gonna do to us, kid? Look at you. You're tiny."
"Ouch." I pretended to be hurt.
Behind me, Luna growled, shifting her talons so that her snout was closer to the ground and she spread out her wings, expanding her size so she blocked the whole alley's exit.
"Can you do me a favor?" I asked, "Could you please leave that person," I eyed the small figure, who had stopped protesting, and was trembling in the corner, "alone?"
"No." The head thug shook his head, "What's it matter to you anyways? This was none of your business before you came along on your big dragon, trying to be scary."
Luna snarled, and her jaws opened, gaping to show her big white fangs. The two goons behind their leader flinched back in terror, and the small figure shrank a little bit. I patted Luna on the snout, hoping that'd calm her down, and she reluctantly closed her jaw, even though her glare pierced into the thug's gaze.
"Who even are you?" One of the thug minions asked.
"The dragon didn't give it away? Or this?" I asked, gesturing at the sword I had strapped to my back. The Ninja symbol was carved onto the handle, gleaming in what little light this alley let in, and all the thugs' eyes widened.
"You're... You're a Ninja." One of them murmured, while another one cursed.
"Ding, ding, ding." I pretended to ring a bell, "Do you want a prize for that realization, or should we get right to the part where I help this person and kick all of your butts?" I raised an eyebrow at the thugs.
"You may be a Ninja, but that doesn't change the fact that you're tiny and can do no harm. I bet you're still in training." The head thug sneered, cracking his knuckles and then his neck, stalking towards me.
Luna glared, but she didn't intervene, letting me have my fun.
"All the Ninja are in training. Why do you think we have a sensei?" I asked.
"Careful, boss. She has a sword." One of the head thugs warned, his tone nervous.
"Oh, don't worry." I unsheathed the sword and then set it to the side. "I'll make it even. Hands to hands. No weapons. Fair?"
"Your doom." The head thug shrugged before he leapt at me, fist raised.
I ducked underneath his fist and then stuck out my foot, tripping him. He landed on his hands and knees and I flipped onto him, latching my legs around his neck while I sat up so it looked like the thug was sitting me on his shoulders. I grabbed his head, pulled him back, and then slammed him onto the ground while I leapt into the air and landed safely on the other side of the unconscious thug.
I raised an eyebrow at him, "My doom, huh?"
"What- What the-" One of the minions stammered, taking a step back. "H-How did you do that?"
"I'm a Ninja." I crossed my arms, "Do I need to explain further?"
"Fall back." The goon that hadn't spoke took a step back, their eyes widening as they took another step back. "Fall back, fall back, fall back!" They started to run, but then I lifted up a hand in the air and then looked over at Luna.
"Enjoy." I simply said, before I put my hand down and Luna raced after the criminals, pinning them against the corner of the alley and then scooping them up by the collar with her teeth, walking back over to me.
I smirked and handcuffed the head goon behind his back, tsking at his unconscious form.
Luna came back with the goons writhing in her grip and she tilted her head at me, waiting for my next command. I simply laughed and then said, "Drop them, Luna."
Luna let out a huff and then unceremoniously dumped the goons onto the ground, glaring at their forms. I went over to them and then handcuffed them both, not even getting a protest from either of them.
"You two must be new." I said, tilting my head. "No one gets that shaken up by a little girl and a dragon."
"A dragon." One of the goons glared at me.
"You know what, fair. Watch them for me, Luna?" I said, tossing a glance at the goons over my shoulder before I walked over to the small figure, who had stayed still and silent this whole entire time.
"T-thank you." The figure's voice was meek and feminine.
"No problem." I took their hand in mine, examining their arm, before dropping it and then asking, "Are you okay? Did the goons hurt you badly?"
"No." The figure's voice grew a bit stronger. "They didn't hurt me at all."
"Good to hear-" I nodded but then suddenly, the figure clamped her hand down hard on my arm. I let out a startled yelp and the figure lifted up their face to reveal that they were actually a woman. She had white hair, pale pink lips, and light hazel eyes. But that's not what shook me.
What shook me was she looked familiar. But I couldn't quite place who she was...
"We're coming." The girl whispered, and before I could blink, she had vanished.
I took a step back, looking around to figure out where the girl went, but I couldn't find her. It was like she had faded away completely. It was like...
"Was she a ghost?" A chill ran down my spine and I walked over to Luna, feeling like I was being watched without me knowing. I shuddered and then said to Luna, "Drop these three off at the police station. And then let's go home."
"Hey, where'd the girl go?" One of the goons asked as Luna lifted them up in her jaws, glaring down at them as they dangled.
"I don't know." I shrugged one shoulder, climbing onto Luna's back.
Luna rolled her eyes back at me as I sat down between her shoulder blades. Her gaze said, "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." I smiled at Luna. "We're coming". To be honest... I was far from fine.
