"Is this what it's like to have kids?" Victor asked me as he bounced Felix up and down in his lap, making the little boy giggle with glee. "Wow, Livvy. I envy you. You have so many people and loved ones in your life. It's amazing. I love this environment."
"You can always come by and stay, you know." I said, "You never have to feel afraid to ask. I'll always welcome you."
"Yeah, I know." Victor smiled and then shifted, moving Felix to the other side. "So, Liv, can I ask you a question really quickly?"
"You just did." I joked and then lifted up my hands when Victor shot me a playful glare, "I'm only kidding. Sorry, that was a bad joke."
"Did you somehow know that person who tried to kidnap me yesterday?" Victor asked, letting Felix run elsewhere happily so it was just the two of us sitting in front of each other. "You seemed very surprised by their presence, and you wouldn't tell me anything because you were trying to make sure that I was okay."
I bit my lip. Should I tell Victor? The last time I told him about something related to the mysterious figure in the mountains, he almost had a panic attack. I decided to tell him the truth. "I recognized that person from the mountains. They... rescued me, even though I don't know why the heck they would do that. I'm semi-sure that they carried me down from the mountains. If it wasn't for them, I would have remained trapped in that cave for who knows how long."
Victor looked at me, blinked, and then nodded, surprisingly. "That makes... a lot of sense, actually. But how did you know that the person took you down from the mountain?"
"Because the last thing I saw before I passed out was them, and then I was back down at the bottom of the mountain." I rubbed my eyes, "There was no way I could have dug my way out of there unconscious, right?"
"Fair." Victor shrugged one shoulder and then asked, "Then how did they disappear?"
That's a good question- I thought to myself. "Ummm, illusion or holograph tech, maybe? Does Borg's Boarding School work with that sometimes?"
"Yeah, we do, but trust me, that was not a holograph." Victor shook his head, his long blue hair cascading over his shoulders. He pulled it back into a low knot at the nape of his neck. "I know how holographs feel, and they aren't that advanced. That was a real, solid being."
"Crap. Well, that eliminates the better option for us." I raked my hair back and then sighed, "To be honest, I don't know. I really don't know. Should I be worried or not...?"
"I mean, I'm worried." Victor scratched the back of his head, "But you are the protector here. You be the judge of your own safety. I'm only here to advise."
"I feel like you're advising me to be worried." I narrowed my eyes playfully at my best friend, who lifted up his hands with an innocent expression.
"Whoa there. How dare you insinuate that? I acknowledge that you are your own person." Victor pretended to be offended. "You jerk!"
"What did I just walk into?" Mia asked, smirking slightly as she bounced Max in her arms. "Just letting you guys know, Lloyd said that lunch is ready, so we should probably go eat before all the food is gone."
"Ah yes. Some people have an incredible appetite in this household." I raised an eyebrow and Mia laughed, shifting Max in her arms as Victor and I got up.
"Better hurry then." Mia smiled, "We're having mac and cheese. Felix is probably getting seconds already as we speak."
"Yummm." Victor grinned, and we walked to the dining room, smiling to ourselves, our worry temporarily tossed to the back of our minds.
