Luna and I tore across the sky, a purple blur against the fluffy white clouds. I let out a breath and then looked over at Luna, who had tilted her head to the sun and was flying freely.
"Whoo-hoo!" I cheered, lifting my hands up to the sky. My fingertips brushed the clouds and it felt like I could touch the sky. There was no limit.
I loved that feeling. No limit, no limit, no limit. This week hasn't been the best, I'll admit that, but today, right now, at this moment... It was one of my favorite moments. Nothing anyone says can change my mind about this.
"I love you, Luna." I bent down and then stroked Luna's head. "I actually love you so much. Thank you for being a part of my life. Thank. You."
Luna rolled her eyes back to look at me, and she seemed to bare her sharp white teeth in a grin. She turned her head back towards the front, watching where she was flying, and I grinned, an unbelievable wave of happiness overtaking me.
I looked below me and found the old monastery was beneath me. Or, what was left of the old monastery. The old monastery had been burned by the Serpentine a long time ago (all the more reasons to dislike snakes, if you ask me) but the Ninja had found the Destiny's Bounty and lived in it ever since.
"Should we go and check that place out?" I asked Luna, "Uncle Wu never lets me check it out. He says that he's worried that something bad will happen to me."
Luna's "eyebrow" lifted up ever so slightly.
"Right. That's probably not the smartest idea." I acknowledged. "That's usually how the heroes or heroines get hurt in the movies."
Luna snorted in agreement.
A chill ran down my spine as I stared down at the ruined monastery. It felt creepy, like there were ghosts down there, staring at me. Waiting for me.
"Come on, Luna. Let's get out of here." I snapped the reins gently, against the hard scales on her back, to signal that I wanted her to move forward as fast as she could.
Luna grunted and then spread her wings, prepared to launch herself further into the clouds when suddenly-
A large missile shot towards me and my dragon, shooting towards us so fast I swear I saw flames lick at the outside of the shell, before it crashed into Luna and sent her spiraling down towards the ground. Towards the ruined monastery, with all of its dead leaves and burnt wood pillars.
A scream ripped free from my throat and I crashed into a tangled bush, gaining many bruises as I tumbled and rolled on the ground. I finally crashed against a pillar and then coughed, my breath bursting out of me faster than I anticipated.
I pushed myself onto my forearms and then looked over at Luna, who was letting out a soft groan, her wings splayed at an awkward angle. She might have hurt them. I thought and with a pained grunt, I heaved myself up onto my feet and hugged my side, which I must have bruised badly. I limped over to Luna and then stroked her snout with my free hand.
"I'm sorry. We should have gotten out of here faster." I croaked hoarsely and then looked around, murmuring to myself, "Where did that missile even come from?"
"Hey, you!" A voice boomed from behind me.
I whipped around just in time to see a figure wrapped in a torn black cloak pointing a crossbow at me, an arrow fired at me. I lifted my hand in front of me and then caught the arrow in between two fingers, dropping it in front of me when I stopped it inches away from my face.
"Why did you call out to her before you shot the arrow, you idiot?" Another figure appeared. The figure was slightly shorter than the one that had shot the arrow, and their eyes were a golden brown color. They glared at me intensely through their hood, which covered everything on their face but their eyes.
