A Silent Sunshine {Hiatus?}

A New Year

Hinata Shoyo, he looked upon the school. "Karasuno...heh, wonder how this team'll do." He laughed to himself, stepping foot into the school's hallway.

Students talked all around him as he stayed silent, calmly trying to get to his class with no troubles. Unfortunately, he bumps into a student as he enters the class. "A-ah!" He hears the boy yelp, both turning to look at each other. "Sorry, sorry! A-are you alright?" Hinata looked up and saw a timid faced, green hair boy. He opened his mouth to respond but it felt dry and he quickly closed his mouth. He blushed and bowed his head before hurriedly finding a desk to sit at.

Hinata mentally slapped himself for causing such an awkward situation with himself and that random student. "Stupid, stupid, stupid!" He mumbled to himself, not noticing the screeching of the chair next to him nor the pair of dark eyes that stared at him.

"Attention, class has started. I will now do roll call. Kaguya Ootori Shi?"

"Here."

"Sano Ayaka?"

"Hah?"

"He's present.." mumbled another student.

"Ukai Hinata Shoyo?" The teacher looked up from his paper and saw a hand raised. "Next time, if you could please call out so I do not have to waste energy to look up." The teacher's cold voice sent a chill down Hinata's spine, making him shiver.

"Yamaguchi Tadashi?"

"Present..." Hinata glanced to the boy next to him. "O-oh.." he blushed and looked away, hoping he wasn't caught staring. Minutes passed and the teacher started yapping on about homeroom and expectations. Same as always.

Hinata steals another glance to the boy next to him and fights to hold back a shriek when he notices he's also staring at him. The pair blush and look away. Hinata feels a nudge from his right arm and sees a small folded piece of paper. He curiously opened it up.

'You're Ukai, right?'

Hinata looked back at the boy and wrote on the piece of paper, sliding it back to him as the teacher turned to the board. A second later and he receives the paper back.

'I'm Yamaguchi! Did I hurt you earlier? You sort of just ran off and I felt like I did something wrong. (/*×*\)'

Hinata chuckled at the emoticon. "Yamaguchi has really nice writing..."

'I'm sorry, you don't need to worry. I'm fine. d(>_･ )'

Hinata discreetly passed the note over to Yamaguchi, smiling at the way he heard Yamaguchi try and stifle his laugh. The teacher turned back to the class and everyone froze, not daring to cause a commotion on the first day of school, no less in homeroom.

"Well, it seems we have some chit-chatters. Let's do some ice breakers." The class groaned. Hinata froze in his seat, his thoughts racing in his head. "Oh no, what should I do? If I freeze up in front of everyone, it'll be so embarrassing! I'll be ruined! I could never walk the halls again!"

"-now try with the person next to you." The teacher's voice broke him out of his thoughts. "Huh?" Yamaguchi turned to him with a smile. Hinata felt a lump grow in his throat.

"I'm Yamaguchi Tadashi. November 10th, I like soft fries." Hinata slightly blushed and cleared his throat, but it did nothing to help with his shaking body. "M-my...name..." he started to cough and Yamaguchi worryingly pat his back. "D-do you need water or something, oh god!" Yamaguchi searched for a water bottle on Hinata's bag.

"Here, here!" He gave it to Hinata. Yamaguchi felt his cheeks warm when Hinata looked back at him with such soft eyes. "S-sorry..." he sighed. Yamaguchi felt bad, a light bulb suddenly going off on his head. "Here," he grabbed another piece of paper and pen, passing it to Hinata. "You can just write your things on here, I don't mind," he sheepishly smiled. Hinata stared at the paper then at the pen, taking a deep breath.

'Ukai Hinata Shoyo, June 21st. I love egg on rice and meat buns. Sorry I made you panic. Again (┳Д┳)'

Hinata nervously smiled at him as he rubbed the back of his head. Yamaguchi snickered, relieving Hinata of a small amount of weight on his shoulders. His smile loosened up and he felt all warm and fuzzy inside.

"Well very nice to meet you Ukai. Oh, there goes the bell." Yamaguchi rose from his seat and spared a glance to Hinata. "Uhm, what class do you have next?" Hinata stood up a second later and showed him a piece of paper, Yamaguchi nodding happily with a cheeky grin. "Woah~ We basically have the same schedule! Well,  except after lunch." Yamaguchi chuckled, making Hinata quietly copy him.

"But, this means I'll really get to know you, right?" Yamaguchi warmly smiled, making Hinata feel butterflies in his stomach and his cheeks warm. He nodded hesitantly and walked off in front of Yamaguchi, already speeding off to their next class. "Haha, wait for me, Ukai-kun!"

A/N: 2023 was a year and another comes. This chapter or 'preview' is basically me asking if I should rewrite this story? This time, I'll have things planned out, I'll try and keep truer to their characters and hopefully update as much as I can. It will most likely be on other story since this one is so muddled. Welp, cheers everyone.
