"what just happened?" i ask as we walk to sapnap's car. "you got my mom and me flowers? seriously? why? you know this is a fake date, right?"

"i know that and you know that, but your mom doesn't," sapnap answers in the usual snarky tone that he uses with me. "no mom wants to hear that a boy is taking her daughter on a fake date because there are leaked pictures of them kissing on the internet."

i hang my head before sapnap opens the passenger side door for me. i thank him, get in, and watch him get in the driver's seat. he starts the car wordlessly and we both sit in silence for a while.

"the flowers were very pretty," i whisper awkwardly, trying to fight the uncomfortable silence. sapnap smiles and offers a quiet laugh.

"i'm glad you liked them," he replies. "do you think i made a good first impression on your mom?"

"definitely. she was smiling at you, so that's a good sign."

"what should i get noel next time?"

"the first date hasn't even started, and you're already asking about the second?" i joke. sapnap shrugs.

"hypothetically, if there was a second date, what should i get noel?"

"a rock."

sapnap snorts.

"a rock?" he echoes.

"a rock."

"why a rock?"

"because that's all he deserves."

"isn't he the mastermind behind this whole thing? he deserves a new watch or a car, if you ask me."

"then get him a nice rock."

"like a diamond? you mean that kind of rock?"

i shrug. i glance at the dashboard and watch the song change.

"you listen to frank ocean?" i ask as "in my room" starts playing. sapnap turns the volume up.

"of course i do," he answers. "you like him?"

"yeah. a lot."

the two of us quietly sing along to the lyrics, then make casual small talk during the car ride.

after fifteen minutes, i ask if we're almost there.

"you sound like a child," sapnap replies, rolling his eyes. "i'll turn this car around if you complain about how long this is taking."

"you sound like a dad," i counter. "wanna play 21 questions?"

sapnap blinks a couple of times.

"that's random."

"it's a way for us to get to know each other."

"you want to get to know me?"

"not really. but if we're going to fake date, it's worth knowing at least a couple things about each other."

"alright," sapnap says while shrugging. "you start."

"first, are we doing easy mode or hard mode?"

"there are different modes..?"

"yeah. in easy mode, you can skip questions that make you uncomfortable. but in hard mode, there are no skips."

an evil smirk spreads across sapnap's face, and i realize i shouldn't have even offered the hard mode option.

"hard mode. i'm not a loser," he says.

"sure. i'll start?"

"you start."
