The mansion was like a warzone with workmen coming and going while Kunlun directed the traffic. The guards had done an excellent job when it came to clearing the damage out of the vault before they reinstalled Kunlun's programme. They had bagged and tagged every piece of broken crockery leaving the decision to Kunlun whether the item would be kept or discarded, which was sad, there was so much destroyed by one mad human. They also had removed the brutally attacked synthetic, unsure of showing it to anyone and it was sealed in a box and locked out of sight. It had been a few weeks since the work had started and Shen Wei for once, followed Chu's advice to stay away for a while, therefore when a major decision was required, Kunlun spoke to Yunlan via the watch in text messages.
The staff in the office had noticed a difference in their boss after his return to work, he was much calmer and his temper was rarely shown. Wei's identity had been kept hidden, making it easy for him to visit Yunlan at his office for lunch dates, when his day wasn't so busy, like today.
Wei had phoned and was on his way to the small café which had become his favourite because of the table at the window, where he could 'people watch', and he spotted Yunlan as he approached, but he looked as if he was preoccupied with a problem. When he spoke to him earlier, there had been no sign of stress in his voice, so this was something new and he waited to see if Yunlan would tell him first, or if he would need to ask and he waved as he entered the café.
"I've ordered tea, you drink too much coffee all day at work, it will help you relax during lunch," and Wei smiled as he studied his face, definitely not seeing any tension that could be work related. Usually if it was, he would be animated and very vocal, sometimes to the point of shouting his frustration, but this was different.
The waitress arrived and left a selection of sandwiches with a pot of tea and retreated taking her tray with her. Wei started to organise the cups while patiently waiting for Yunlan to say something because so far he had only smiled and said hello. He lifted his tea and after a couple of sips, he looked at Wei and spoke.
"I think I might have a problem, someone or something is following me. I don't know who or what it is because I've only seen glimpses in a mirror and the whip has reacted every time it's happened so far. The whip has stopped it from getting too close but when I look back to see what's behind me, there's nothing, it's gone."
"Well, maybe whatever it is, or whoever, isn't a threat. If the whip is reacting and has scared it off, then we're talking about a non aggressive weaker force. When did it start and how many times has it happened?" Wei asked as he drank his tea and offered a sandwich to Yunlan, trying to display a look of calmness and unconcern.
"Today was only the second time, the first occurred before the gunmen episode in the police car park. I only saw the black shape in the wing mirror before the whip reacted and then it was gone, but today, it was after I parked the car here when I stepped out, before I locked the door. The whip did exactly the same, and the noise frightened whatever it was away."
