Pastel P.o.V

It all felt like a dream, I wish when I pinched myself a second time, it wouldn't hurt. As for Ink, he started shaking in pure fear.

"Come on up Ink Comyet, don't be afraid."

That crazy hag said. Suddenly, Peacekeepers pushed through the dense army of possible tributes to grab him by the arm. He let himself be brought up to the stage, still in shock. The camera zoomed into his parent's petrified faces as that harpy of a woman greeted my buddy. "Hello there, are you excited to be this year's second tribute Mr.Comyet?"

"..."

"Aww, don't be shy, say something~" "I-I... I'm kinda scared."

He laughed awkwardly as he faced the crowd. I smiled at him and almost broke down into tears, he was my only friend and the fact that he was invited to a death game in which anybody from here barely returns makes me think that I'll lose him.

Ink P.o.V

I seriously don't know what I'd do at this point, suicide? That's probably much better than staying here and potentially dying a slow and painful death. But even if I were to die early, I'd have to do it in the arena so nobody else would require getting picked.

"Amazing! That's the spirit!"

"Uh..."

"You want to add anything? You make it sound like it."

"No thanks."

"Alrighty then everyone, that concludes the reaping. My fellow District 7 tributes will have at least a day to say goodbye to their family until the live show in two weeks. Happy Hunger Games and please applaud our pawns."

The Plaza was still mute but the sound of a gunshot made everyone begin to applaud us. The fact that no one would've accoladed was acceptable but to push it further and force it on people is kinda harsh. One word still sat oddly with me and that was the fact that she had used the word pawn to portray me and Reaper, this further proves that the Capitol just wants to see us killing each other for fun. When the event ended, we were taken backstage where our families and friends told us our final farewells. I was specifically shocked by mine.

"Ink!"

Pastel rushed through the guards to give me a hug. I felt him hic from the emotions he was trying to go through, his tears came down like flowing water. I was in the state of quandary as he shook me.

"Win for me Ink, please."

"I-I'm sorry Pastel."

"No! You aren't sorry because I know you're going to win, come back home and we'll be together for the rest of time."

"You're so positive. It's okay not to be."

I smiled and put my hand on his shoulder as he receded from the tight hug. My own teardrops started to hit my clothes, I was devastated but his motivational words make me think otherwise. My own parents now approached.

"Ink. We have something to tell you and we think you should know about it."

I had my idea of what it could be, I've always been suspecting them for hiding something related to the showdown itself. For years, they whispered on this specific topic only once a year and I was flattered to know the answer.

"You... you used to have a brother, about fourteen years ago."

I was out of words, nothing could describe that aftertaste of betrayal. "Why did you not tell me?!"

"Because we wanted to avoid... this."

"W-What happened to him?"

"He was selected to play in the games but commited suicide on his first few hours there, we didn't want to tell you so you wouldn't be motivated to do so as well. We wanted someone in our family to come back alive despite the casualties of this terrible roguery."

"I get it."

"You do?" "Yeah."

I wiped my tears with my bare hands as my friend handed over a tissue to me. I simpered happily knowing that even if I were to die, not all was lost for now.

"Visiting time is over, may the tributes go to the central train station."

A Peacekeeper cold-bloodedly said. Pastel then dropped off a basket of snacks and said. "So you aren't hungry on the way there."

This would be my chance only so I kissed him on the cheek. I saw him become a little red and simply back away to cover his face a little.

"Goodbye! Good luck my son!"

My legal guardians said as the doorway of the subway train began to close. When the engine started, I put my hand on the window, staring at my loved ones as the locomotive got further away. In the end, when I couldn't see them, I just went to my room, laid flat onto the new bed and sobbed.
