Ink P.o.V
This recurring feeling tainted the back of my thoughts, maybe it was my turn to die, so close to winning.
For now, they had moved me to a tree and set camp. They raided my bag, eating and drinking all of my provisions in front of me, healing themselves with my first aid kit and huddling in my covers. The night hit hard, I was freezing as they repedently splashed me with water, wetting my clothes and damping the cloth, keeping me from screaming. I wondered what Template was doing now, most probably gathering stuff up for a fire or going on one of his evening hunts.
"That should do it for tonight."
They grinned, the woman setting up the tent for them to sleep in tonight. I shivered, trying to get some heat from the fire they had started earlier. Aelius caught me and pushed me back to the stump with his leg onto my chest.
"I'm guarding for now so it's my turn to have fun with you."
I shook around, trying to fight him approaching me with a knife. He held my neck against the body of the conifer and approached the knife to my chest.
"Hm... what rib should we break first?"
My eyes stared at what he was doing which made me even more queasy. He looked like he enjoyed the pain from it. From afar, Domitilla crawled into the tent, not wanting to know what he'd do to me.
I threw up once more, feeling a little bit too much emotion. It was able to escape from the bottom of the soaked textile, dropping in bits onto my shirt. The boy from District 1 seemed disgusted and stepped away from me. Wish I could puke on command and not only when I feel strong things. I was left alone until the night was too quiet so he walked over to me once more.
"Hm, let's continue with what I was going to do."
I couldn't feel anything anymore, I was exhausted by all of the running, staying in captivity and mental stress, thinking that I'll never see Pastel after this. He put the knife on my chest as I closed my eyes and felt the cold hit it again. Like the time where I washed myself in the lake, of course not going too far or I'd drown.
"Now, which rib do I break first?"
His knife flirted with my chest, the chilly blade circling an area. As he was about to stab me, I kicked him off with a strong and brisk foot.
"You shouldn't do that, it'll just make it more painful."
I bit off the cover and screamed for help again, begging that Template would come back but it was no use, who'd save someone that could kill you.
"Get away from me you bastard!"
He came back, putting a foot on my head and squishing it against the wall as I yelped loudly in agony. When he removed it, I saw that a rib was fractured but I felt no pain... yet. I had forgotten about the pain killers. Luckily, it wasn't a big enough crack to spill out blood from the wound.
"You must've taken those pain killers we found in your medical kit, interesting." "Leave me alone."
"Oh no, tomorrow, we'll kill you."
"..."
He started laughing hysterically, strolling back to the campfire. I concocted a plan slowly while my mind couldn't be put at ease. Anything sharp could help but I'm sure everybody's investing into other tributes or Gerold doesn't have enough money to give me even the smallest pocket knife.
Everytime the teenager started around, not at me, I'd wiggle, slowly loosening the ropes holding me to the log. After an hour, I was loose enough to escape with ease. I waited for the shift to happen, when Aelius went into the tent to wake up his partner, I stood up quickly, sprinted to my weapon and ran off without making a noise. I was also able to obtain my bag which had a spare cover, knife and medical kit in it. I climbed a bush and managed to gain some height to watch the beautiful show.
"AELIUS... WHERE IS THE BOY?!"
The female screeched.
"On the tree, you can't miss him-"
He said with a barely audible, sleepy voice.
"I mean... HE ISN'T THERE ANYMORE AND SO IS HIS BAG." "WHAT?!"
He bolted out of the temporary safeplace to examine what I've done. "W-Where... h-how?!"
He looked upon where I recently was and shouted in despair a few curses. "We have to look for him!"
"No! That's a terrible idea!"
"Why no-"
A weird noise was heard across the arena as we saw many pairs of eyes flash in the distance, it was spine chilling.
"What's that?"
"Oh you know who we are~"
Thera and Blackberry walked out of the bushes, looking... undead like. Their wounds still bleeding and all, they seemed to be alive in a way. Their physique was skinny, craving food like those zombies that I've heard of in horror movies I watched with my best friend late at night. But their posture and attitude was different from the undead, knowing how to speak, walk and feel some emotion or possibly the only one, hate.
"H-How-"
"This is an arena event!"
Domitilla shouted at her teammate and began attacking these creatures, more came out, possibly the ones they had killed or those who had minor implications with them. I heard a crackle under me as I looked and saw... Reaper, those white ovals with tar leaking out of his eyes, staring directly at me, climbing the tree rapidly with two knives he had gotten earlier. I sobbed, seeing Venus, Valeri, Chronicle and Julia doing the same thing, all targeted at me.
I felt something grab my foot and as I scanned what it was, I pushed it off. The human made a loud thud as its body slapped itself against the floor. I was able to slice Chronicle's eyes out with a quick hit from the halbert, but now he couldn't see me and was struggling to move. I felt incredibly terrible as I threw myself from my hiding spot, running away with all of my equipment on my back.
The pitch black made it almost impossible to distinguish where I was heading but somehow, I found myself back onto the plains, with my jacket covering my bare chest. Perfect timing since the temperature began to drop significantly as the beasts followed me. I felt something on my head and realized white stuff was falling from the sky, slowly. It was beautiful to see.
With some time, those monsters caught up to me but I took them out. That's when I noticed that blood is easily recognizable on this white, cold carpet. My boots were ruined with all of the running, jumping, climbing and so were my feet but the pain killers prevented all of this blistering anguish. I perceived the barriers contrapting again until all four of us were on top of the hill where the Feast table stood.
Before Domitilla had arrived, Template came up to me and gave me a big hug. "Ink... I'm sorry."
"It's okay Template."
"You sure..?"
"Yeah."
He hiccuped then cried at the sight of my extremely bloody clothing. "I-I'm really sorry."
He handed me a heavy bag with the number seven written on the back of it. As I peeked at it's contents, I saw 5 sharpened hatchets, made for throwing and a sachet that held them all. "We have to break the alliance... I hope you understand."
He was able to spit out while sobbing. "It's fine, I understand."
He smiled and gave me one last hug before backing away. Domitilla and Aelius climbed the hill shortly after and stared at us.
"May the winner of the 156th Official Hunger Games be crowned!"
A man said. No matter what happened, I know I'd still die a peaceful death.
