When I woke up, I was back in my bed, a sharp pain stung the back of my neck until I began moving. I looked at my own body, realizing that I had been changed into a khaki long sleeve sweater with leather shoulder pads, black leggings with the same material as knee pads and finally, the high tan boots that I adored so much. Once I looked into the mirror, a charming pink candy bird face paint stained the right side of my face, away from the black birthmark on the left side. It spread across my eyes and cheek, looking as if it was flying onto my figure. "It's time."

Gerold came to advise me. I felt so nervous, I puked onto the ground. As an expression of disgust spread across his face, he closed the bedroom door. With a glance, I saw the yellow scarf was just washed, waiting for me on the night table. I carefully wrapped it around my neck, covering the spot where I felt the burning sensation but making sure nothing was sticking out of the agglomeration of tissue since people could grab me by the back and I would be an easy target.

"Where's Reaper?"

I said, having a cold expression on my face, glaring around the room which I will most probably never see again.

"Right here."

My tribute companion stood beside me, wearing about the same things except tainted black, it would be hard to see him in the dark without those goggles we had during night time. "Remember, run away from the Cornucopia, find a water source and avoid the careers. From what the interview had in stock for you two are possible enemies that would outnumber you both so the best strategy up to now on is picking them off one by one, don't let yourself be fooled!"

A buzzer sounded across the space. We both went into the elevator and were brought down to the main level where guards escorted us to private planes. The runway had different coloured airships with all different numbers written on their hoods. I advanced towards it with my friend, both of us not saying a word, getting comfortable in the seats. I shook, my hands sweaty staring into them as the aircraft elevated itself from the ground, hovering over the Capitol and bringing us to an arena about an hour or so away. We were still within the metropolis's zone.

The landing was brute, having us be unattached to our goals was near impossible as we entered the stadium guarded by an electric force field making escaping impossible. An underground tunnel led us to a room containing glass panels which would elevate us onto our stands, near the Cornucopia. Lencho accompanied us and made a few final touches on our outfits.

"I wish you two the best of luck. Health to both!"

We couldn't smile but deep inside, I'm sure I would've done that if it were a different context. I still don't fully trust Reaper but that'll do for now, he's taller and more muscular than me which makes a great ally strength wise. After almost two hours, he addressed me again. "So, what's the final plan?"

"I'll follow what Gerold said, I don't wanna change anything." "Alright."

"Alliance or not?"

"Of course."

"Good, I just wanna make sure."

When I replayed this part in my head, I can't help but notice my emotionless voice. Sounding like a literal block of ice. The Peacekeepers demanded for us to climb onto the panes and we did as asked.

Quickly, we were being lifted up and put onto those landmine things. I remember that one year where some girl had a wooden ball as a memoir then dropped it onto the stand. Let's say that they were picking up the remnants with a tiny brush and scoop. Which makes mine good cause I know it's not going to fall.

I felt like puking again when the voice of the animator resonated across the arena.

"I will have a countdown from eleven to one and when I say go, you can safely debark from your pedestals."

I looked around, trying to find Reaper who ended up being next to me. I showed him the symbol resembling luck as he smiled.

"Ten!"

I started to look at the loot of the Cornucopia. Some weapons like knives and rope were left open, apart from other bags which all the other supplies were in.

"Nine!"

I began questioning my strategy then remembered all the casualties caused by the Bloodbath itself.

"Eight!"

I denied my own change of strategy. "Seven!"

I began thinking of my family for the next few seconds, remembering that not all hope is lost. "Six!"

"Five!"

"Four!"

"Three!"

Back to the game, I placed my feet into a running stance, ready to sprint for the forest behind me. I just noticed the stadium seemed built on ruins of old houses as there was a village not too far from the right, north of the Cornucopia which was not where I was planning to go during the entirety of the games. Ruins like these just attract people for shelter and camps are made to get easy kills.

"Two!"

Everyone prepared to go. "One!"

A loud explosion was heard before the go and a cannon shot sounded in the back. The blood droplets by a human poured onto everyone.

"Go!"

Many people tripped off their podiums, startled by the noise. I stood pretty far from the explosion so only blood falling was the only thing disturbing me right now. As I ran off, I felt a presence and looked back to see Reaper holding a knife, probably disputed with another tribute.

"Hey!"

I said, with a reassuring voice but all of my hopes were lost as he launched himself onto my, plunging the weapon into my arm. We rolled down the hill, hitting a few rocks before I tasted the unfamiliar richness of blood and coughed it out, hitting Reaper's face. With that split second, I removed the blade on my right with my left, punched him into the stomach and saw him squeal, trying to deal with the pain.

"FUCKING BITCH!"

He said as he got up, chasing me and receiving the knife I had just collected in the lower chest. I must say, even if I was hit in my good arm, the left still has hope.

"C'mere! I'll tear you to fucking tear you to shreads!"

I teared up as running became painful, the sweat leaking from my head, ruining a bit of the bird's feathers. The emotional damage couldn't be recovered, all those moments during those three days we spent strategising, cuddling. He's really just a selfish creature. I sprinted too far, I lost track of time, my position and Reaper. Something inside was telling me he was dead since I did hear two more cannon shots since the explosion.

I scanned the area, a thick, dense and humid forest as I took back my breath. My tears are almost choking me. The nearest tree to me seemed fairly artificial and had a khaki bag with a brown-ish outline on top of it.

"Found ya~"

I climbed it, barely reaching the bag before the wound on my arm started irritating me again. Secured onto the branch, I unzipped it then saw an empty canteen with exactly what I needed, a first aid kit containing bandages and cream.

I sighed and began healing myself, staring at the sky. It has only been around an hour since this has started and I already feel awful.
