Ink P.o.V
After this wholesome bonding time with Gerold and Itsaso on the train, I was close to District 11, another emotional wreck bound to happen when I spoke to the people there. We discussed where would be perfect for a vacation, ignoring the Capitol of course.
The food, a glorious plate of fried, golden dumplings containing a hash of carrots, onions, pork and sweet potato were served on a fish broth, floating around. My female sponsor gobbled it down like it was her last meal, slurping the stock loudly.
"Calm down, I understand you hated the spicy food from 10 but c'mon."
"I HAVEN'T EATEN ANYTHING FANCY IN THREE DAYS, PAY ME SOME RESPECT!"
I watched through the windows as I saw filled fields of crops, the colours were bright, reflecting the moonlight.
"Ink!"
I ignored that, seeing the pilled barrels and eyes through the woods. "Ink!!"
"Huh?"
I turned around, questioning what they wanted from me. "Isn't this a beautiful District?"
"Yeah..."
I felt myself doze off as I awakened once more in a motel. The walls were creaky, moldy but the breakfast was amazing. This is one of the poorest districts, where robbery and murder is normalized at this point. I looked back at my time in District 7 and... oh no, I forgot the charm.
I watched, on the night table, a note was left as the Pink Bird chain was laid onto it. 'This is yours, I fetched it for you.
-Gerold'
I smiled, knowing he softened up to me. He went out of his way to retrieve something that meant nothing to me and this warmed my non-existent soul. Thinking about souls made me sick as I ran to the bathroom and threw up again. The noise that the saw made... twice... of course they removed the artificial thing before I left... It was a test. Yet again, I was soulless, odd, uncommon, valuable merchandise to them.
The repetitive noise was heard on the wooden barrier of the room. I went to answer it and saw Itsaso, giving me one of her glossy dresses and high heels.
"I want you to have this, it's a small gift for today."
I stared at it with excitement, being happy and knowing that I looked better in dresses. "Thank you!"
I whispered as she shrieked. "Don't tell Gerold!"
"I won't."
I closed back the door and put it on, feeling at ease. The royal blue, long garment was soothing and appealing to the eye.
I spun around, in front of the long mirror and was called to board the same vehicle that led to about the same stage. I was escorted to the dais as people cheered my entrance. I saw Template's family and smiled at them, greeting them with the microphone. I remembered Template mentioning something about... a brother but I saw no one that resembled him in the slightest.
"Hello everyone... I am pleased to announce that I've won this year's game with the help of Template, the boy from here."
They cheered as I began crying, unable to hold it back.
"He was most probably the bestest friend I've had in a while and he didn't deserve to die, like the others that took part in this rigged game."
It was silent.
"He was killed off, like many other players, just because they could and the idea of having no winner tormented them."
They cheered as I heard many cries, most probably his friends. "You!"
