Cross P.o.V
I was glad that I got to see this gorgeous place. There were many floors and I found that I could finally call it home... I missed my parents... my brother. Lots of people had similar stories, them losing family or being taken away from it.
Once I entered my assigned room, I realized that I'd be sharing it with Ink, this person I never got to know about. That time, three or so years ago, when he was pleading to me to help him... or when I got taken away.
"Oh hi, you're my roommate now. I won't be staying long though, I have a mission in District 2 tomorrow."
"Hmm, I heard what happened to you. I'd like to know a bit more about you since... you never know when it'll be your last trip."
He smiled sadly and looked up at me before hugging me tightly. I felt all of those feelings again and returned the warm embrace.
"Well... you know I won the games... right?"
"Yes, that's why you're here, correct?"
He nodded as we installed ourselves on the corner of the bed, lying down and staring at the ceiling.
"I miss my home, I miss it just being me and Pastel. I just... want the old days back because now I lost everyone... Mom, Dad, Cuddles, Reaper, Template... Error."
I hadn't heard those names in a while.
"If I die, I want there to be a statue of Template built somewhere." "Why?"
What an odd request.
"Because Template helped me through everything. He should've been the one who won." "So you must say that you're better off dead?"
"Yes. Him or Reaper would be fine because I don't think they're worth much to Flenius anyways."
Ink kept smiling through those tough words.
"What do you miss?"
"Just my home... and how it used to be before mom died." "Forgive me but how did your mother die?"
"She betrayed the Capitol so she was executed."
He pondered on something.
"Why didn't they kill you?"
"I don't know... perhaps dad didn't want to lose another child."
"Another child?"
"Yes, I had a brother, well a younger brother who forced me to go out at night then he disappeared. We never found or saw him ever again."
Ink apologized to me for it as I brushed it off and said I don't remember much anyways. "Can you believe it..?"
"Believe what?"
"It's already been three years since I've won these games."
"Hmm, yeah, and those three years have changed the face of Panem."
I turned around to face him. "So you're seventeen now?"
He cried.
"Hey, it's fine. I'm nineteen now." "Hmm..."
We just spent the next thirty or so minutes in the bed, hugging each other with the silence of the base surrounding us. Suddenly, the speakers spoke up.
"Miscellaneous train approaching the station. Please be cautious."
Ink began breathing quickly with panic. "Hey."
I said as he ignored me. "Hey, hey, hey, look at me!"
I turned him around to face me. His eyes were shaped as a brown spiral and an orange exclamation mark. I didn't know what this meant but I tried my best to help.
"You don't need to panic. I'm sure it's more rebels."
"What if it's not! I can't bear losing anyone else."
He covered his face.
"It'll be okay, we can go check it out if you want." "O-Okay..."
I grabbed his hand, not romantically of course, just so he doesn't scatter off. We made our way into the corridor which made him somehow at ease. It's like nursing a baby with him... not to be rude or anything.
Once we made our way to the main station, we recognized the train as being one from the Capitol, many survivors walking out and that woman that spoke to Blue yesterday assisting them. When I saw Rocher walk among them, I tried to keep Ink's vision away so he wouldn't snap and kill everyone.
Ink's eyes had changed to two red crosshairs which I guess isn't good. I pulled him away, towards Cressida to talk to her.
"Why are you helping them?! They're the enemy!"
"Hmm, we wouldn't have taken you, seeing you're the enemy too."
"Cressida, you've lost your mind!"
I yelled as I heard a voice behind me.
"Aww, is that little Cross with his guard dog?"
Rocher popped up and Ink begged me to let go of his hand so he could beat him up. "What do you want, Rocher? Can't you see you've made all our lives a living hell?"
"Hmm, not enough seeing that the people here spared me. Might wanna keep that thing to your right leashed."
He was talking about Ink and I got insulted by that, maybe even more than him for some reason.
"Enough Rocher! YOU killed my father and now you're here saying that it's our fault that we brought you here!"
I let go of Ink who gladly punched him right in the face. He flew backwards as Ink went on and on until his hands were blood filled. Cressida screeched.
"Ink! Stop!"
She pushed him off, threatening to electrocute him with a taser and rushed Rocher to the 'hospital'. Blue then walked onto stage.
"She's been acting odd lately."
I grabbed Ink's hand again as we made our way to the bathing space to clean off the blood on him.
"How so?"
"She wants to help the Capitol now even though they traumatised us."
"There must be another reason."
"And that's what I want to uncover."
"Where is she headed now?"
"She's staying with Ink on her trip to two." "Maybe we should send a spy along with them?" "I don't think she'll betray us."
Ink dunked his head into the warm stream of soapy water that apparently resembled what he described in the seven. Of course, we looked away, why would I look at someone naked. "You wanna bathe as well? We're here so mind as well join our friend there."
I don't know if this was to flirt or anything but I accepted it. A week without a shower does leave a mark. We got undressed as we searched for wherever the smaller one could've gone as we jumped in. I felt pressure on my leg as I lifted it up to see Ink's arm. I continued to lift to reveal him, almost drowning. He coughed up as I put him aside.
"I almost drowned!"
He agitated his arms, grasping some breath. "Do you even know how to swim?"
"No-"
"That explains it."
Blue said as she dove in.
"Maybe you should stay in the elevated end." "Hmph, fine."
Ink stayed aside, thinking about some things I guess. I suppose he was nervous to go on the train with someone who may possibly betray us.
