THIRD PERSON
"Ma, seriously. I'm okay," Yoojung sighs, holding her phone in front of her face. It was the next day, she had just finished a 6-2pm shift on a Sunday. She was rushing through the mall, from where her work was located, to get home. She had plans later.
She wanted to square up with her brother who accidentally blurted out to his mother that he saw her at the hospital while during his visit. Her shaken mother exclaims into the FaceTime call, "No one walking out of a hospital is okay, Yoo."
Yoojung physically cringes at the nickname, "Just because your dad called you 'Yo' when he was alive doesn't mean you get to call me 'Yoo,' Ma. It's ugly."
"At least your dad is alive. You should be thankful that your mom is in your life too," her mother snaps. Yoojung rolls her eyes. "Fine, if you say that your visit to the hospital was nothing, then it was. The next thing I wanted to ask you about was when are you coming to visit us at home?"
Although she was thankful that the topic changed, this one wasn't much better. "You know how busy I am, Ma, with university and work."
"Yes, but that doesn't mean you can't find time in your schedule to see us," she nags. Give or take, the last time Yoojung visited them was probably about six months ago. "When I die—"
"Ma," Yoojung exhales out in frustration. "Why do you constantly bring this up? You're in your 50s, you're not going to die any time soon. Who cares right now?"
The firm expression on her mother's face was quickly replaced with a tint of hurt. Just then, someone calls her from her office. Her mother harshly swallows, "Okay, Yoojung. I'm off my break. I wish to see you soon."
"Bye," Yoojung fakes a smile before ending the call. She didn't like getting nagged like that. The topic of visiting them was tired. My parents live nearby, why can't they visit me instead? Tsk, my life is so complicated.
She annoyedly stuffs her phone into her purse. She had to suffer an eight hour just to get lectured by her mom. It wasn't a good way to end off the late morning.
Out of nowhere, there was a feeling of pain in her chest area. It was as if someone had just elbowed the air out of her stomach, and she gasps. Her vision began turning hazy, and her steps stagger.
Evidently, these were the symptoms of her heart cancer that she thought she could forget about.
She noticeably looked wobbly, but no one else in the busting crowd notices. Every individual in the mall was too focused on their own problems and obligations. Though, from afar, someone was trailing her; the only one who noticed.
With his hands in his pockets, he coolly walks behind her from a distance. His turtleneck, trench coat, and baggy pants depicted him as some sort of rich business man. Truly, he was doing business at the moment but an unusual one. His eyes were locked on Yoojung, observing her demeanour.
You should really treat your mother better, Ni-ki thought to himself as he watched her. He had eavesdropped the entire conversation - It couldn't be helped! Super hearing was a natural ability of a Vampire.
This Human was going to inevitably die in three months. He couldn't help but pity her, though he still needed her gone.
As he observed her, he was also playing close attention his overall environment:
"I'm breaking up with you because you gave me the ick last night," a teenager girl righteously exclaims unto the phone as she brushes past Ni-ki.
Ni-ki's eyes travel to his left to eavesdrop the next most interesting thing. "Boys will be boys," a father argues with a mother after his son had just slapped her daughter's face because he wanted to have a turn on the indoor playground's slide.
"You don't know how hard my life is," another teenage girl, who wore an authentic Chanel outfit with a GUCCI bag in her hand and a Daddy's Girl gold necklace around her neck, rudely yells at her shy friend, who wore an outfit made up entirely of second hand apparel. Ni-ki scoffs as he walked past them.
He found Humans so pathetic. Why are they so self-righteous? He was glad he wasn't one of them.
He couldn't help but wonder how Jungwon fell in love with the Human species. They were so icky and reckless in his opinion. I guess love is love, he sighs to himself.
You couldn't really blame him for being so heartless. This was one of his closest friend's daughters. If he grew attached to her, this mission was going to become difficult for him.
No one was helping her. He wondered why Humans gratified love so much yet disregard any chance to show love. He wondered why people decided to pick and choose who to give their love to, as he watched Yoojung helplessly suffer by herself. What a poor, unfortunate soul.
She stops walking to hold her pained chest, and he also stops in his tracks. His eyes narrow and his head tilts to the side, wondering what was happening. His hand unconsciously lands on his chest, which did not hold heartbeats.
Vampires didn't have much diseases, so he wasn't very wary of Human terminal illnesses. It's not like they depended on organs like Humans did.
He also was the youngest royal Vampire, therefore he had not lived a long life yet in Vampire terms and did not understand a lot of things. Furthermore, he trained only a couple months in the Human realm before the realm disconnection, so he didn't know much about the Human livelihood either.
The main thing of importance in his mind was how he was going to break the news to her and how he needed to wipe her out of existence.
Just then, all consciousness returns to Yoojung. She regains hold of herself and inhales a deep breath. As if nothing happened, she continues waltzing away.
Amused, Ni-ki scoffs in disbelief. Look at her, he indulges in internal dialogue, she's pretending to be okay. He continues to follow after her.
