Vampires are good at skipping sleep a couple nights in a row. They could last many days awake... if they didn't do any tiring activities. Ni-ki had not slept since he arrived in this realm and had kept himself busy since then, so tonight he was knocked out.

On the other hand, Humans were obligated to devote at least eight hours of sleep every night or their bodies would give out. This was one thing that Vampires found bizarre. How did they possibly have the time to not do anything for a prolonged period of time? Were they not busy enough?

Yoojung was sound asleep on her bed after spending a couple hours studying for her classes. It was 3AM, and everything was silent. Winnie the Pooh stayed by her side the entire time like he always did. He had been her comfort ever since she was a little girl.

Just then, a whimper escapes Yoojung's lips. Her heart began to beat rapidly as it began to burn, like someone lit her on fire from the inside. She clenches her fists unknowingly to somehow ease the tremble in her body.

Even in slumber her cancer refused to spare her.

Groaning, she twists and turns on her bed. This awakens the brooding Vampire. Ni-ki opens his eyes as if he wasn't just asleep - like he was trained to in the Vampire military service whenever an emergency occurred.

He lets go of the window sill to fly over it. Thankfully, it was still open from earlier. He sees Yoojung's state and quickly flies inside. He transforms into his Humanoid form and lands to his feet.

She doesn't look too good. He suddenly remembers that he promised her no pain the afternoon before. Ni-ki could be heartless at times, but he certainly wasn't a promise-breaker.

"Sunoo hyung, I'm sorry if I butcher this spell even though I practiced it a billion times." He wasn't exactly fluent in the Language of Magic like Sunoo was... and that was a requirement in order to perform any kind of magic.

He rushes to his knees by her side, grabbing her hot hand and intertwining their fingers together. She was sweating and her face was all red. Ni-ki fearfully wondered if the doctor was wrong and that she wasn't going to live until the expected three months. What if her body was going to give up any time soon?

He then hovers his free hand over her heart, ready to enchant her. "Im Namen der Götter der Reiche erkläre ich mit der Vitalität des Heilers, dass dieses arme Mädchen bis zu ihrem Tod keinen Schmerz empfinden wird (In the name of the Gods of the realms, I declare with the Healer's Vitality that this poor girl will feel no pain until she dies)."

It takes a few seconds for the spell to take action. Ni-ki sees Yoojung's heart glow yellow from her chest. The colour momentarily flashes in his eyes before it fades away, signifying that it worked.

He exhales out in relief. This is when Yoojung's eyes flutter open. She was still full of sweat and reddened by the pain she was just spared of. She weakly mutters, "You?" She realizes he never told her his name.

Relieved that she looked better, he exhales out. He quietly informs her, "I put you under a permanent spell so that you feel no pain until you die. This was part of our deal. The pain you were experiencing just now is the last."

"You're so considerate," she sleepily jokes. She lefts herself onto her elbows, and this is when she realizes that they were holding hands. Her eyes widen, bewildered, and she stares at him for a long time. "Uh."

He embarrassedly clears his throat, "That was to get the spell to work. I know I'm good looking but don't fall for me because of that. My only goal is to get you killed." He rudely yanks her hand off his as if he wasn't the one who held hers first.

Scoffing, she turns her body so that her back faced him. "What makes you think that I'd fall for someone like you?" In reality, she turned her back to hide the smirk that was plastered on her face.

"You're Human."

She pauses for a moment, trying to think of ways to intelligently clap back at that. "Have you ever wondered what it was like to be Human?"

"Why would I want to imagine being Human?" he retorts. "You're all inferior Vampires. You guys don't have powers nor abilities."

"We have love," she whispers. "Love is the most dangerous thing Humans can offer. In fact, wait until your heart becomes broken because of a Human's love."

Since the devastating impact of Human love was unfamiliar to him, he doesn't take her seriously. He laughs, "Bullshit."

She grins, "You have no idea what a Human's love can make one do."

Just then, he remembers the madness Jungwon went through to be with Danah. Maybe Yoojung was right. With a lack of a good comeback, he says, "You need to know when to shut up sometimes. It physically bothers me."

Yoojung yawns, "I'm literally the one who's physically bothered. You should be nice to me."

"I am being nice. You're no longer physically bothered, I just freed you from all pain." He was getting annoyed that she wasn't expressing much appreciation.

She snaps back, "One good thing doesn't excuse everything else you say to me. You tell me my future is hopeless also while making sure my future is as long as possible."

Ungrateful bitch. Rolling his eyes, he gets up from his knees and turns away from her.

As he was getting ready to get back to that ledge he was sleeping under, he stops in his tracks when Yoojung mumbles, "Thank you."

If he were being honest, he couldn't tell if she was being sarcastic or genuine, so he decides to respond neutrally. "You're welcome," he arrogantly says.

She slowly says, "No, really. Thank you." It was evident that she was still tired based on how her words were slurring. The boy's sharp eyes soften upon hearing those words, words he didn't expect from her. "I know that window isn't very cozy. You can sleep on that couch beside my door. It's not big enough for someone your size, but now I feel indebted to you. This is the least I can do."

His back was still facing her, and he peers over his shoulder to glance at her. Her back was also faced toward him, but he could tell she meant it without looking at her face. He was stunned at her generosity; it almost left him completely speechless. As if he just remembered that he could talk, he gulps out a "I'm good."

Oh, she thought to herself. Her blinks then began to slow down before her eyelids glued to each other once again. She had fallen back to sleep.

Ni-ki transforms into a bat and exits out the window once more and hangs under its sill. His claws the grip the wood as his body was upside down in the position to fall back asleep. However, he doesn't.
