Alastor and Angel finally made it out of the woods and into the city. They had never been out in the city during the day time, only at night when they were on a job so they never really much time to look at anything. But this time the sun was up, it wasn't dark, and neither one of them had to focus on hiding. For once they could relax, walk down the street, and look around.
There were lampposts, park benches, business districts, stories, eateries, and boutiques. Locals walking around, going back and forth, in a rush to reach their destination. Cars were either driving along or stopping at traffic lights. It was basically an average city with normal people and normal buildings and establishments. No wonder Charlie chose to live here.
"You think that boutique sells lingerie?" Angel asked.
"We're not here to shop Angel, we're here to see Charlie." Alastor said. "Now stay close and try not to be inconspicuous."
"With this new body? You gotta be kidding."
Alastor rolled his eyes, but it turns out that Angel was absolutely right. He and Alastor didn't just look human, they looked like attractive humans. Women passing by beamed and stared at them, and some men did the same. As expected, Angel loved the attention he was getting and responded with a flirty wink and blew a few kisses. Alastor just bashfully hid his face in his coat. As much as he enjoyed not being seen as freak for once, he had no interest in becoming an object of desire for any of these women or men.
"Why so shy Al?" Angel asked him. "The chicks dig ya, and so do some of these beef cakes."
"Angel you know I don't crave that kind of attention."
"Why not? It could come in handy. Do you know how easy it is to benefit from someone's sexual attraction to you? Do you know how many cases I've solved using that method?"
"Angel I don't like people touching me, and I don't know how you can possibly allow anyone you meet to just lay their hands on you. You don't know where they've been."
"Ah lighten up."
Alastor stopped at the corner of the sidewalk to look around more and try to find the diner where Charlie worked. He thought about using this new connection he had with her to pin point her exact location but he was worried that if she figured out he was here before he had a chance to explain, she would call Solomon immediately and ruin everything.
"Looks like we'll have to ask someone for directions."
He spotted three girls standing on the other side of the sidewalk, smiling at him and giggling to each other.
"Excuse me ladies." He approached them. "Could one of you tell me where I could find the Golden Gate's Diner?"
Their smiles increased ten fold and they started batting their eyelashes at him.
"Hi I'm Tiffany." One of them said.
"I'm Michelle." Said the second.
"And I'm Heather." The third added.
"Hello." He said, feeling a little anxious. "So um about the diner-"
"What's your name?" The one called Tiffany asked, coming closer.
"I don't think- Hey!"
She started to massage his shoulders.
"You seem so tense."
"I want to rub his shoulders." The one called Michelle complained.
"Please don't touch me." Alastor said.
"I want something to rub." The one called Heather whined, ignoring his discomfort.
"Get in line." Michelle scowled.
