For the next few weeks, when Alastor wasn't training, he immersed himself in the world through Charlie's eyes. He observed her as she navigated her daily life, each moment transforming into a shared adventure. From the mundane tasks of washing dishes and taking orders to the chaotic encounters with difficult customers, Alastor found himself captivated by her resilience and growth.
There was nothing quite like experiencing the world through her perspective—feeling her joy as the sun rose each morning or her excitement when music played nearby, prompting her to dance.
Alastor reveled in the little things that brought Charlie joy. He felt her heart race when she paused to play ball with a child from her apartment complex, her laughter bubbling up at a silly joke from Niffty, or the warmth that enveloped her as she took a moment to gaze at the starry night sky.
He admired her ability to find beauty in the simplest of things—a blooming flower, the sound of rain, or the taste of her favorite dessert. The scent of lily of the valley, the sensation of raindrops on her skin, and the taste of an apple fritter. Admittedly, he found the last one quite unappealing, as he detested sweets, but he cherished the joy it brought her.
As the weeks passed, Alastor became increasingly invested in Charlie's world. Each day unfolded new experiences, and he was there to witness them all, sharing in her triumphs and offering support during her struggles.
For Charlie, the constant presence of someone who uplifted her made all the difference. She felt empowered, comfortable in her own skin, and capable of achieving anything.
With Alastor's unwavering support, Charlie began to embrace her true self. The insecurities that once haunted her began to fade, replaced by a newfound confidence that radiated from within.
Their bond deepened as they both experienced a profound sense of happiness, a change that did not escape the notice of their peers. Niffty recognized Charlie's naturally cheerful disposition, but lately, she seemed to radiate joy, practically glowing when she came into work. Meanwhile, Husk, Blitzo, Vaggie, and Angel observed that Alastor rarely left his room, except for training, eating, or using the bathroom, and when he did, he carried himself with an unmistakable spring in his step.
One morning during training, Blitzo strolled into the area, a weapon slung over his shoulder, his usual swagger on full display. He paused mid-stride, arching an eyebrow at Alastor, who stood lost in thought, a dreamy smile plastered on his face.
"What's with you? You got a funny look." Blitzo remarked.
Alastor snapped back to reality, tilting his head in feigned confusion.
"What look?" He replied, his tone playful.
Blitzo rolled his eyes, stepping closer and scrutinizing Alastor's expression.
"You look like you're about to kiss me." He shot back, crossing his arms.
Alastor chuckled, a melodic sound that filled the room.
"Well, when the light hits ya like that, something about your head..." He let the sentence hang, a twinkle of mischief in his eyes.
Blitzo's eyes widened in surprise, and a frown creased his brow.
"Seriously, Al, what's going on? You've been acting all...Happy lately, and it's not your usual creepy happy. And you're actually staying put for once, you haven't tried to sneak out or anything."
"And that's a bad thing? I thought that's what everyone here wanted me to do."
"Yeah but since when do you listen to anyone?"
Alastor leaned back, a playful smirk dancing on his lips as he considered Blitzo's words.
"Ah, my dear Blitzo, perhaps I've simply found something worth sticking around for." He replied before exiting the room.
