Tonight was Barnaby's party. After taking care of what went on in the pawnshop, the demon had enough time to attend the next thing on her schedule.

She needed to go to Barnaby's mansion. After all, she promised him she'd attend his party, and she was gonna keep that promise.

She just needed to use her time wisely so the murder investigation wouldn't interfere with her plans. So she was getting ready.

Hat Kid had stood outside Billie's house the other day, looking out for any signs of Bill or the other villains.

So far, Bella ended up really lucky, as each get-together went smoothly without any problems. But she shouldn't get ahead of herself. The only things left on the list were Barnaby's party, Fantoccio's theater, and that date she has with Scrimshaw. And she should still have Hat Kid with her just in case.

Bella felt bad for pressuring her with this type of job, even though Hat Kid kept reassuring her that it wasn't a big deal. After all, someone had to keep an eye out in case anyone would try to ruin her plans.

Bella started to get ready for the party, as much as she didn't want to admit it, she enjoyed being in Barnaby's presence. For a ghost owl that tried to kill her and Billie on the day they met him, she really enjoyed his company.

The owl was really affectionate with her, and really cared about her consent and feelings. Bella remembered how the owl's acts of affection were usually him preening her. Biting her neck with his sharp beak every minute.

She still remembered the feeling. It hurt at first, as the first time was when she was stripped of her powers. Her gray fragile body couldn't handle such a sharp beak piercing into its flesh compared to her yellow skin, which was technically an exoskeleton, having such an invulnerability to handle something that would be too much for a mortal's skin to handle.

The demon was almost done when she heard Hat Kid's voice behind her. "Ready to go?"

"Yeah, just gotta smell good for Barnaby," Bella said. She reached out and picked up some perfume that Rarity had recommended for her a while back, and sprayed herself a few times.

"You know, this is a party, not a date," Hat Kid chuckled. "Know the scents for Scrimshaw."

"Well, I still gotta look and be my best," Bella shrugged. "It's hard to believe I managed to get away with going to Dutch's fancy party, sleeping with Elaine, and having dinner with Billie. Maybe whatever my dad wanted to discuss wasn't that important to begin with."

"It probably was, but maybe he was busy with something else to bother looking for you," Hat Kid suggested. "I'd rather not let my guard down. I mean, what are you gonna do first after this schedule is over? Other than letting yourself and everyone else have a break, that is?"

"I haven't forgotten about what my dad wanted," Bella chuckled. "As soon as it's over, all I have to do is go over there and listen to what he wants to say."

"Well, there's only three people left on the list, which means three days until it's over,"  Hat Kid said. "So... let's not quit now. We still need to keep our guard up."

"Yeah, I'm surprised that we've been lucky so far," Bella said. "If I get caught, I'm never gonna hear the end of it."

"You won't, and besides, maybe you're right," Hat Kid assured. "Maybe your dad doesn't care too much."

"Well, I need to get going," Bella told her. "I already had to change plans with Billie yesterday, and I do not wish to disappoint Barnaby."

....

Barnaby's party. Bella enjoyed them. She always had ever since she got a first taste of them. All around her, were ghosts after-living it up and wild.

She got to experience it for the first time way back when she was still powerless. To be honest, Bella never really liked thinking about those times.
