I slowly walked back to the dorm and watched the sunset go down. All while thinking of my new dorm mate—Angelo, I think his name is.
He wandered in my head all throughout basketball tryouts. He's odd and quiet.
For some odd reason the entire day he hadn't said a word to me until I saw him talking to himself on the bench. I thought it was weird—but I found it weirder how he lied. It was almost like he's never lied in his life. He said that he had homework to do......on the first day. He obviously has never lied a day in his life.
A heard footsteps rush up behind me and I looked and saw Chief, "wassup, you think you made the team?" He asked.
"I got a scholarship here through basketball, I would hope I made the team." I said and he laughed, "you right,"
We walked a big portion in mutually comfortable silence. The ombré in the sky that was strewn from the sun departing was a treat that my eyes were enamored in. Each color had its own segment which faded into each other perfectly.
"how you liking it so far?" Chief asked, "liking what?" I asked—never taking my eyes off the sky above.
"everything here; the dorms, the people, the vibes.." He listed.
"it's cool." I said nonchalantly.
"what's about your dorm mate? what's his name again?" He asked. I took my eyes off the sky and finally looked at Chief with my own perplexed look, "it's angelo or some and he different." I said as honest as I could.
To be honest with myself I don't know him enough to judge. I just know talking isn't his strong suit and he has noticeable abnegation.
"different how?"
"he just.. he not like others." I said thinking to myself.
"everyone's unique,"
"yea well he's a different level of unique." I said looking at him. He had a smug expression emblazoned across his face which was insinuating I had an interest in Angelo.
"bro, not like that." I rolled my eyes at him laughing, "i just mean he's strange—he holds a bunch of secrets that are clearly eating away at him. not to sound dense or anything, but who do you know can look almost perfect to society standards but be so quiet?" I wondered.
"so you're saying every conventionally attractive person needs to be an extrovert?" He said, "it's probably just how the kid is. you never know," Chief shrugged off to dismiss the conversation.
"you're right,"
Chief nodded and we walked into the building where our dorms were located. We made it all the up to our room and said your goodbyes.
I unlocked the door and walked in to be met with Angelo's voice.
who's he talking to?
I quietly closed the door and took a few steps in so he wouldn't notice my arrival. I was standing right beside the bathroom so he couldn't see me from his side of the room,
