"yeah ill give you to her" she stood up giving the phone to lizzie before sitting on the floor beside the table with mattie.

she grabbed one of the cookies engaging in a conversation with the boy.
"hey y/n?" i hear lizzie ask coming into the room.

"your always listening to music, and i was wondering if you want my old headphones, i just got new ones" she said holding the pair out to me. they looked expensive.

"no i can't take them"
"your not, i'm offering" she insisted taking a seat beside me.

it felt wrong to accept it but it felt worse to keep refusing. so thanking her i took the headphones and she smiled joining the others at the table with a board game.

"y/n come play with us" mattie asked and i agreed sliding down to the floor placing a pillow in my lap. i really didnt feel like it but it was better to distract myself then think about today.

they pulled out monopoly and soon the game started. i didnt have my full attention on the game but somehow i was still winning. at the end of the first round i ended up making everyone bankrupt. rose demanded we play again. they did but i excused myself to sit outside.

i grabbed the headphones wanting to test them out and my phone before taking a seat in the warm air outside. checking my phone i see monica still hasnt texted me back.

i slip the headphones on and the quality is amazing. it completely blocked out everything and i could just watch the trees in the wind while being fully immersed in the music.

i must've fallen asleep because soon it was dark outside, storming and rose was shaking me. she gently pulled the headphones off before saying "come on, dinners ready" and waiting for me to stand up.

i hung the headphones around my neck and headed inside behind her. greeting roses mum and brother i took my seat at the table. at this point everyone had their unassigned assigned seats. mattie to my right, rose to my left.

"y/n are you okay after today?" scarlett asked me. i nodded at her with a small smile. i could tell she didnt believe me but i didnt care.

i didnt really pay attention to the rest of the conversations but i think the boys were talking about ninja turtles. i watched as mattie got seconds and i look down to my own plate with barely half done.

looking around at the others everyone else is almost finished. i pick up my fork again trying to have more. but all of a sudden there was a loud banging at the door. mattie and i visibly flinched but the others just jumped.

"kids stay here" lizzie said getting up with scarlett. you could see the dining table from the door so i dont get the point in us staying here in any real danger.

lizzie only opened the door a bit but it was slammed open. "of course you selfish brats are over here, harassing other people like your starving" my father pointed angrily at us from the doorway. mattie and i hurried to get up and go with him to leave everyone out of this but scarlett put hands on our shoulders to stop us.

"they were just having dinner" lizzie told him and i could see my fathers jaw clench.

"come on go home" my dad then pointed out to our house. "theres someone there to see you"

i took a step trying to see across the road as to who would be there but that just meant he could grab my shoulder and push me forward. he then grabbed matties arm and shoved us across the road.

mattie was looking back at lizzie but i kept my head to the floor. now my dad will probably think we told her. "its a fucking shame you wernt killed today" he told me once we got to our door.

we walked in but i stopped when i saw her.

my mum?

she tried to come over to me but i held a hand out. she left. she didnt want to be in my life so now i wont let her.

"oh whats the point in trying" her demeanor changed and she turned to my dad. "1500 or im not doing it" she then said and i saw my dad hand over a wad of cash.

"y/n your going to live with your mother for a month" he said coughing a smoker cough. i didnt say anything, i couldnt.

"i suggest you pack your shit" my mum said and i went to my room mattie instantly following behind me.

i cant live with her, i dont even know where she lives. id have to change schools, meet people, live with HER.

mattie doesnt talk but i could tell he knows im not doing well. he came over to my throwing his body over mine as i sat and wrapped his arms around me in a hug. i hold on to him as he tells me everything will be alright. it was the sweetest thing ever.
