a few days later i packed some stuff in my back pack since i was going to roses straight after school.

i made sure mattie had his pyjamas and stuff before we left. i said goodbye to lizzie once we got to school since she was heading off straight away.

the day went by quickly and soon i was meeting rose by the gates.
"cosmo is taking mattie with him on the bus home, we gotta walk if that's alright?" rose said and i nodded fine with it. we headed behind the school and headed back that way.

"i know you've met my mum and brother but my dads really nice. he works really late some nights though" rose explained and i nodded.

it was only a ten minute walk to her house and we pulled up to this nice two story white house. "my mum won't be home till later" she then said dropping her keys by the door and taking her shoes off.

i did the same and followed her up to her room.
she dropped her bag at her door and flopped on her bed.

i looked around her bedroom. it was very her. "you hungry?" she asked after a second.
"not really" i shrugged and she stood up.

we walked back downstairs to her kitchen. she opened the pantry and the fridge and alll the cupboards. it was the fullest kitchen i think i've ever seen.

before living with lizzie this would have been a shock to see so much food in one spot. she pulled out a jar of cookies and grabbed a few.

"we have a ping pong table outside if you wanted" i agreed and she grabbed a speaker. 20 minutes later the boys came barging into the house.

"ROSE!" cosmo was shouting. the girl rolled her eyes and stepped inside. i followed her with mattie coming up to me.

"remember to behave, we don't know these people, were guests" i reminded him and he seemed just as nervous as i was. cosmo quickly invited him to play a game on the nintendo switch so we went back outside.

since it was the late afternoon now the sun was just at that angle to be at your eyes so we sat down in the hammock they had out here.

"you sure it will hold the both of us?"
"easily" she said confidently "my dad and i used to stay out here together. i would lay in his arms afterschool- sorry"

"no you don't have to apologize" i assured her. 
"i see my dad maybe twice a year now, but i can't complain" she said warily and i nodded. if anything im glad i never have to see my dad again.

"wait twice a year? is colin not your dad?"
rose just shook her head.
"he's my step dad. cosmos bio dad yeah, colin and my mum probably got together when i was 4 or 5" i nodded and we kept talking.

later on her mum came home and found us outside. "hey girls, what do you guys want for dinner"

"i'm fine with whatever" "something good" rose answered earning a playful glare from her mother.

"something wrong with my cooking rose?" i just looked between the two scared. 

"no mum, your cooking is amazing" she assured her

"thats right" the blond nodded and headed back inside. 

"why do you think were always at yours" rose then whispered to me. i let out a smile. and we continued talking. she would share memories and i just started to realize how different our childhoods were. 

how her dad lives in the city now starting a new life, how every night when she was little she would stay up to welcome her home if she had a late shift. 

"being a nurse it was hard to hide anything from her. i remember when i first got my period she knew instantly. motherly insticts or something but the second i looked at her she knew, and she helped me talked me through it, as terrible as that day was its a core memory" she sounded so fond of her childhood. "anyway its day 2 right now so im dying" she held her stomach and i let out a forced smile.

i never had anything like that. 

"what about you?" she questioned. 

"well i got it and i was just glad i knew what was happening, my mum wasnt around only my dads week long girlfriends so i didnt tell anyone, i stole shit from the store near my house. but i havent had one in a while so" i shrugged and she looked at me concerned. 

"whens the last time you reckon?"

"i- dont remember" she asked if i was concerned and i shook my head. 

the sun was set by now and i could hear the neighbours next door, they must be spanish or something and i could hear an older woman cursing out their kid. scarlett called us for dinner and it was a struggle to make it out of the hammock but we managed. 

inside i saw who im assuming was colin, he was a tall blond man and was laughing with scarlett. mattie came downstairs and lingered by the stairs once he saw the man, he then locked eyes with me and rushed over. 

"dad!" cosmo shouted running into the mans arms. the man grabbed him by his feet hanging him upside down for a second before putting the kid over his shoulder. cosmos laughter filled the room. 

"colin, this is y/n and mattie, lizzies kids remember" the guy smiled and greeted us. he extended a hand out to fist bump mattie but the boy just jumped away from him and hid behind me. 

"sorry, its nice to meet you" i apologized for mattie who was still cowering behind me. 

"no im sorry, i didnt mean to scare him, its nice to meet you both" we all sat down at the table all with our plates infront of us. 

i started to get really nervous.
