i lead mattie over to just under the bridge where i sit and spread the blanket out for him he sits down at the same time as me looking out into the distance. he doesn't talk much not that i don't mind. i pull my bag out in front of me grabbing the book and crayons for him placing them just in front of where the boy sat.

"thank you" he smiles finding a blank page and drawing what he sees. i think imma like this kid. he seems nice. i grab out my things getting what i need.

i notice mattie sticks his tongue out slightly when working i notice how when he looks up for a second to see the image again he can easily get distracted by a bird or passing car. i finish of one of my drawings putting it in a folder filled of my complete art works.

"so how's school" i ask the boy giving him my full attention

"it's good, my teacher mr downey is amazing, you can tell he really likes teaching and isn't in it for the money, his lessons are always really fun" matthew continues to tell me about his day and his friends mark and issac. how he was the golden child in pe. "sorry" he said after finishing "my mum doesn't like hearing about my day"

"mattie you can always tell me about your day" i assured.

time skip 3 hours later

i only had my sculpture to finish at break tomorrow so it will be ready for the weekend all my drawings and paintings were done. i'm only entering 3 paintings as it's not my strong suit but i am confident those paintings are okay. mattie had changed from drawing the trees to a castle and peoples.

"you hungry mattie" i asked remembering i had a musli bar in my bag it's not the tastiest thing but it's something. it had been a couple hours so i assumed he would be. my suspicion was confirmed when he nodded putting his crayons down and his hands in his lap.

i grabbed out the bar handing it over to him and taking a sip of water myself. "when are we going home" mattie questioned. and i felt bad for keeping him out here. he's a kid he probably wants to be at some playground or something.

"we can go home if you want to. i just prefer to be out here rather than at home" i said preparing to go home.

"no i like it out here. just wondering" he said quietly. i nodded.

soon it started to spit so mattie and i quickly packed up our stuff and started to walk home before it started pouring. he grabbed my hand as we walked. i notice how dark it had gotten the sun almost set but there was still light.

"do you know whats for dinner" mattie asked clearly hungry and tired from all the walking.

"i will be making it so whatever you feel like "

it began pouring just as we turned the corner to our street. i looked down to our house and saw my dads old mustang missing. they better be here. mattie and i speed walked to the door where it was slightly more undercover and out of the rain.

i got to the door and went to pull my keys out of my bag. of course i just had to forget them. i saw no text on my phone so i assumed they were still home. i knocked on the door but there was no answer.

mattie was shivering at this point and i felt bad for keeping him out so late. i pulled my jumper of helping him put it on. i'm glad i wore a long sleeve shirt today. it went down to his shins but atleast he's warm.

i knock on the door again when mattie pulls at my sleeve. he hands me a note that got half wet from the rain.

son daughter,
we went to the pub down the road. don't come to us. we will be home late.

well that's just great. "i'm sorry matthew, we might be out here for a while" i said shooting myself in the head. mentally.

i could call monica. she knows about mattie but i couldn't make her and ashton come get us just to annoy her parents.

as much as they say the love having me there and all that i can't help but think they don't mean it. maybe it's issues from the relationship with my parents. i don't know.

i could walk over to lizzie's she said if i needed anything i could talk to her. but i don't think she wanted well this.

the gate to the backyard was locked. it's to high to clim over and plus it would be slippery from the rain. i just don't know what to do.

lizzie's pov.
it was dark out and raining. scarlett and her kids were still over we were on the couch waiting for our chinese food watching frozen. scarlett loves that movie for some reason.

the doorbell rings and i stand up looking for my purse to pay however i see a smirk on scarlett's face as she hands me hers. knowing there was no way of convincing her i took out a 50 walking to the door.

i opened the door and grab the bags off the young adult who was wet from the rain. "miss johansson?" he questioned i nodded. scarlett insisted on ordering so i don't even know what she got us.

i took the food slinging the 2 bags on my arm and paying the guy. as he walked away however i saw y/n and a kid sitting at her door. their roof not providing much cover from the windy rain.

"scar!" i shouted she came running thinking something was wrong with our order. "you guys start eating i'll be back" i said grabbing an umbrella.

"lizzie it's pouring and windy where are you going. what's so important- oh" she rushed then saw the kids. "locked out?"

"i think so" i said however last time i thought that her father just wouldn't get up. she takes the food going back to the couch as i walked outside.

the little boy notices me before y/n i get right up infront of them holding the umbrella over their heads. y/n looks up and embarrassment creeps onto her face.
