Lizzies pov

Scarlett left after hugging the kids and telling me to call her if she needed anything. "are you okay mattie?" y/n asked as they moved from the front door.

"your dad kicked me across the room" he said lifting up the back of his shirt to reveal a massive red mark along the back of his ribs.

I went to the freezer to grab ice packs wrapping it in a tea towel and handing it to the boy. "anything else?" I asked him and he shrugged taking a seat on the kitchen stools. I opened my freezer grabbing an iceblock and handing it to him. He took it thankfully and I offered one to y/n but she shook her head with tears in her eyes.

Mattie went to go lie down on the couch and I walked closer to y/n. she was shaking and on the verge of tears. "can I go to my room?" she asked shakily and I don't know If I should let her considering what happened before. "please"

"okay honey, but leave the door open so I know you're alright please" I said and she nodded hurrying down the hall.

I went and joined mattie on the couch and he laid his head on me as we watched spy kids.

y/ns pov

I closed the door half way and squished myself between the edge of the bed and the cupboard. Mattie almost died because of me, everything I did angered my dad and nothing he said meant what he was saying. So maybe I shouldn't have left, I should have stayed to make sure he was okay.

I started crying digging my nails into my arms trying to stay quiet everything was my fault. everything is always my fault.

I must've fallen asleep because soon I was woken up by lizzie.

"what are you doing down here" she said helping me up. I just shrugged lightly and she smiled sadly wiping my eyes. We walked down the hallway to the kitchen where they were almost finished cooking dinner. I seriously don't have an appetite after today.

Dinner was quiet but mattie was in a good mood even after everything that happened. I didn't have much but lizzie said she was happy I had something. After dinner mattie and I went to bed, stressed from the last few days.

The next day

y/n pov

I woke up at 730 and mattie was already awake and I could hear him and lizzie in the kitchen.

"guess what y/n! lizzie said I can go back to school" mattie said excitedly eating the pancakes the latter had been making.

"that's cool mattie" I smiled at him ruffling his hair as I walked passed.

"good morning sweetheart" she greeted "morning liz" i smiled back. I made up a cold glass of water and sat down beside my brother resting my head on the bench.

"you can go back to bed if you want, you guys don't have to go in today" lizzie explained and I nodded getting up to fall back asleep on the couch. The sleep deprivation was finally hitting me.

I was literally asleep in seconds.

3rd person pov

y/n spent the day sleeping, genuinely the next time she woke up was 5pm. When she woke up rose and scarlett were in the kitchen and mattie was sat on the kitchen bench.

A couple hours ago mattie was complaining that it hurt to breathe so lizzie called scarlett since she was a nurse. She determined it was just a bad bruise and he took some pain medicine.

"she showed me some bruises on her back yesterday, she has to be in a lot of pain but she hasn't said anything"

"just talk to her-" they stopped once lizzie noticed y/n sitting up on the couch. She rested her head in her hands rubbing her eyes and stretching a little. She checked the time on her phone and realized this time yesterday is when she went to sleep. rose came over sitting next to the girl as she pulled her knees up to her chest.

"you okay?" rose asked turning sideways on the couch and facing y/n.

"yeah, I think so at least" she said taking a deep breath. The blond brought the other teen in for a hug and y/n relaxed into her arms. She feels safe around these people, safer then she's ever felt.

When they pulled away they continued talking about all the things anyone could talk about. "how are you still tired?" rose asked with a lighthearted laugh as y/n was wrapped in a blanket falling asleep again.

"im always tired" she yawned. Rose nodded in understanding swapping to scroll through any social media that kept her entertained.

Scarlett had kicked lizzie out of the kitchen to make dinner as cosmo came running into the house from outside.

"mattie come look all the frogs are out!" he said all exited. The brunette boy jumped down from his chair and rushed outside.

"boys" the women said in sync with a laugh. lizzie grabbed her stuff out to start grading students work struggling to read half of the handwriting.

y/n pov

I got up to go to the bathroom and when I saw myself in the mirror I was shocked. I had no makeup on my face washed away from yesterdays rain so you could see all the bruises and marks.

My jaw tightened as I ran my fingers over them. I sighed washing my face and going to the toilet. On my way back to my room I grabbed a hoodie to throw over the long shirt I had on since I was still cold.

I walked back going to the kitchen for some water. "have a good nap sweetheart?" lizzie asked me looking up from her laptop. I nodded downing the entire cup.

"dinner should be ready in a couple minutes" scarlett said grabbing plates from the cupboard. I nodded heading back over to rose.

My phone was still pretty charged so I went on it exited to see a message from monica. She wasn't happy I wasn't answering her though.
