i performed my first musical at age eight and
for the next decade it was all i did
perform
perform
perform
that's what they teach you
dance and sing and act
that is performance
they laid out the rules quite simply
remember your lines
remember your choreo
don't touch other people's props
always smile for the back of the balcony, not just the front row
so i smiled and smiled and
never stopped
on-stage or off
on good days and on bad
perform like it's your last show
because who knows if you'll make it to tomorrow
if they say you're a pretty girl then you are
they've been waiting all day, haven't they
so put on a performance
entertain your audience
you never know who's out there
best to go along with it, just to be safe
