Somewhere Only We Know

Chapter 6: Can we talk

"I met Maya when I moved to New York, we were both so young back then, we didn't know how unfair life would be to us. We kept talking and she became my safe place."

As Wendy smiled at the memories, all Josie could do was frown, but she let her continue, after all it was her story.

"After my mother and father were killed nobody knew what to do to make me want to live again, every night their death replayed in my mind. The way they screamed, the way they protected me from those vampires."

Wendy had tears in her eyes as she looked out at the lake, as the wind blew it caused her to shake a little. Josie noticed and so without a word she wrapped her arms around her, warming her up as she let her take her time to continue.

When she finally did, Wendy began again. "Moving to New York was huge, I was only fourteen, I didn't know anyone except my cousin and her parents but that was all, I was still learning how to control my powers."

"And when I saw Maya for the first time..." Wendy paused as she giggled at the memory. "She saw how sad I was and she did everything she could so I could smile again, and she did, when I was with her I never stopped smiling, I never stopped laughing, I became her world and she became mine."

Josie could feel her tears threatening to escape, but she held them in, and let herself try to understand Wendy, because she knew that's what she needed at that moment.

"We were everything to each other, we became each other's safe place. And when we gave everything to each other, I did a spell that ended up with me getting pregnant. We were so happy."

Wendy sighed as she stood up. "But when her mother died something changed, something I can't explain. I knew something happened that she never told me about."

But then feeling angry Wendy began to say. "She promised the world to us, to me, to her daughter, but she couldn't keep it. SHE MADE ME WORK FOR HER FATHER, THEY MADE ME PART OF HIS STUPID REVENGE, AND I HATE THEM FOR IT, FOR TAKING MY MAGIC. BUT I HATE HER MORE FOR BREAKING MY HEART AND LEAVING ME, ME AND AMY!."

Wendy yelled as he fell to her knees screaming letting it all out. Josie looked at Wendy, her heart breaking for her. So she whipped her tears away and stood up. She held her hand out to Wendy.

Wendy looked at Josie then at her hand, as she took it, Josie pulled her up and into her arms, she held her so tight letting Wendy cry into her neck.

When Wendy finally calmed down she pulled away and gently put her hands on her cheeks as she said.

"I love you so much, and I promise to never leave you or Amy, from now on you two are my everything." Wendy looked deep into her eyes searching for anything that could tell her she was lying, but found nothing.

So without hesitation she brought Josie down for a kiss that meant everything for both of them.
