Shefali opened her eyes with a throbbing pain in the back of her head.
She groaned and tried getting up but she was too out of control to.
She gave her senses some time.
The bricks she slept on were cold and slightly wet from the rain last night.
There was a prolonged silence in the dark place she was in.
It was not the first time she was made to faint using a herbal scent so she did not panic this time.
She sat up holding her head firmly knowing her head would feel heavier than usual.
She glanced at the abandoned sight.
There was very little light entering the compartment and it was mostly dark everywhere.
There was no sound to be heard other than her breath.
Green bushes came out of some bricks bricks, at places breaking them apart instead.
She had no idea where she was but she certainly felt chills at the quietness of the place.
All until she looked back.
She suppressed a gasp at the sight of an old, dusty, green laded at areas... statue of Maa Durga (a Hindu goddess)
She stood up and admired the statue of the deity from afar.
She had never seen a Durga statue other than the one in her village temple. And the intriguing part was that she rode a lion there and here there is a tiger.
She was about to step towards the statue that looked so rich in its history but then she heard someone talk from the side.
She hid behind a pillar that did not look that reliable to hold the weight of the roof but as of now, that was her only shield.
"I was thinking, we could just go have something for breakfast"
She heard a man's voice as soon as it started getting distinct.
Shefali took some time to realize that the men were talking outside the temple.
"But Bare Chauhan has asked us not to move from here"
The other protested hastily.
"She is asleep"
The first one argued.
But then, probably, he wanted to recheck.
"Common in"
He said and the footsteps became clearer.
Shefali panicked and slept on the floor trying out her best acting skills.
The men watched her lying motionlessly from afar.
"Why do you think he asked us to bring her here?"
The second man asked after a while.
"She must have done something to upset him perhaps"
Replied the other in a calm tone.
"My wife works in the palace. She mentioned this young girl to our children. I don't think she can do something so bad for the royals to walk in"
Said the man partially feeling bad for the unconscious-looking girl.
Shefali swallowed trying to stay still.
"I know. Who could forget the incident on the judgment day?"
Asked the other.
"Let's hope the royal does not ask us to do something our own conscience won't let us accept later"
