Fate is sometimes really disturbing.

Shefali was probably destined to go to a land, far away from Bengal, which had nothing in common with the place she grew up in, Rajputana (present-day Rajasthan)

Rajputana stood on its own, independent of the constant collisions with the Mughals.

Shefali's dadu could not protect her from the shadows of the darkness no one would ever want their girl to go through.

It was a golden opportunity for the group of women traffickers that night. Such a young and beautifully carved girl lying on an empty road would be a great deal to anyone out there.

The men were happy because they did not have to buy the girl. After all, if they had to, then they wouldn't have had enough money to.

Some of the fellow women were least bothered and some were envious of the delicate age and the rare features. A few felt sorry for the girl who did not sign up for it on her own.

Shefali had a mild fever, unaware of the happenings of the outer world.

She was tied up in a broken cart with a few others.

The journey went on for two days straight.

She was not offered much food or water but none of that was bothering her because her mind was constantly racing. She felt so many emotions at the same time that she was left in a void.

Perhaps if her health improved she could come back to life again.

The cart jerked and stopped, making her wake up.

The little door opened and a man pulled on the end of the rope.

The first woman walked out followed by the second. Next was Shefali's turn but she needed some time to sit up properly.

The rope eventually pulled her and she almost crawled outside.

"Slower. No more scratches on her. What if they don't pay us enough because of these?"

Says the huge man that sat on the horse.

Shefali blinked at the place with surprise.

She has never seen a place like it before.

It was a glorious place covered by shabby green mountains far away, almost forming a natural boundary. The soil was hot as hell making her gasp.

For the first time in three days, she was untied.

She did not know what happened last day and how she was bought by the royalty as soon as the manager saw her amongst the crowd of girls, peacefully sleeping in the corner.

"What is this place?"

She says looking at the ground she stepped on.

She was flustered by the beautiful architecture of the temple situated in the farthest corner of the town.

"Common girl"

A man pushed her forward.

She walked ahead towards the gate they led her to.

Although her head was still heavy, she could not take her eyes off the place.

For a brief moment her mind did not go back to the awful night she does not fantasize remembering over and over again.

The huge gates opened after a while when the man was done talking to one of the soldiers.

The soldiers eyed her from top to bottom making her shrink in her skin.
