"I am not hungry"
Shefali shouted not opening the door.
"At least open the door..."
Rekha pleaded from the other side.
Shefali slipped down on the floor, her back resting on the door.
"Have they left?"
Shefali asked shadyly.
There was an embarking pause.
"Yes, just a while ago"
Rekha confronted.
Shefali silently unlocked the door and walked over to her bed.
"Why are you acting so weird? Is something troubling you?"
Rekha asked holding the wooden end of the bed.
"Nothing"
Shefali tried to escape.
"Tell me about you. How are you?"
She asked instead, trying to get away with it.
"I am as good as I look"
Rekha answered rather quickly.
"You don't look that good..."
Shefali said touching her cheek with affection.
"Don't try to outsmart me, Shefali. I know you the best and you better not try to hide from me"
Rekha said holding Shefali's hand that previously rested on her cheek.
"What would I even have to hide?"
Shefali said looking away.
"I'll go back after this weekend when the Bhattacharjee family will come to see you. Fine, push me away for even the few days we are spared to be together"
Rekha said in a jokingly-mad-at-you way.
Shefali frowned.
"Who are the Bhattacharjee-s?"
Shefali asked.
Rekha cut her tongue dramatically.
"Guess Sattya dada would have told you himself"
Rekha exclaimed.
"Don't hit around the bush Rekha. Tell me already!"
Shefali demanded, impatiently.
"You look disturbed"
Rekha confronted her before emphasizing what happened after she left.
"How could Dada agree to marry me off so easily?"
Shefali almost shouted.
"Calm down... Why would he not? You should feel grateful that you didn't have to marry when you were my age. Look at me now"
She said, touching the white saree.
"Rekha..."
Shefali hugged her long-lost friend tightly.
In the warm embrace, she could not hold herself back anymore. Her fury melted into hot burning tears and sobs.
"Shefali, what happened? Are you okay?"
Rekha asked rubbing her back gently while Shefali cried her heart out.
"I don't want to marry now, Rekha"
Shefali said facing Rekha, still weeping.
"As dramatic as always! Who told you you are going to be married off immediately? You will get the time to know them, talk to them, and then probably after a few months they will fix the final date. Your brother won't marry you off to someone wicked"
