Satyendra intentionally blocks Eshant's gaze that was so affectionately embracing his love who stood several feet apart.
Eshant's eyes traced Satyendra's.
Satyendra was more concerned about the guest who stood in the pleasant veranda with dishes exclusively prepared for their liking.
On no occasion was Eshant asked to give his identity. Who would not know the warrior prince of Rajputana? But alas, this was not Rajputana. There was no way he could avoid the young man who stood between him and Shefali.
"You must be Shefali's brother, are you not?"
Eshant asked instead.
Shefali turned to her aunt who sharply gasped drawing every attention.
Shefali looked away before she could catch her.
"I am"
Satyendra's tone was rigid.
The neighbors were very much into the conversation now.
Shefali knew how impulsive Eshant was but she wondered how she would defend herself after this statement. Especially , when her brother had kept her connection with the royal family and its brothel an innate secret.
When Satyendra's intense gaze did not move an inch from Eshant, he realized he must introduce himself first.
A fellow soldier walked forward to introduce the prince like they generally did in the courts but Eshant prevented him from going any further.
"I am Eshant Raj Chauhan, the youngest prince of Rajputana... The next defender of the precious throne that rules"
He said, dignity flourishing with each word.
Whispers engulfed them altogether.
Even the bricks were probably murmuring amongst themselves about the unforeseen drama that was slowly unfolding.
A few men stepped back from the door giving space to the prince, intimidated.
It was still a mystery as to what made the prince land on the rich land of Bengal of all other places that existed. Is it something related to theft or blasphemy? Was the mainstream of concern among the masses that encircled the scene.
Shefali was in a state of confusion. She was happy, scared, and regretful.
She wanted to run off to him as much as she wanted to walk into her room and close the door on Eshant's face. Could she ignore the urge in her to curse herself for ever bending to the idea of marrying someone else? Probably, rather most certainly not.
The only one who was not moved at all was Satyendra.
He considered himself to be the only shield to his sister's regality. He knew he could not let Shefali be the subject of the society's gossip that would eventually ruin her forever.
"Isn't it a bit too risky for a Chauhan like you to be openly roaming around under the Sultan's rule here?"
Satyendra asked, his hands tightly pasted behind his back.
His tone was calm, his words came out sharp.
Eshant smirked looking at the ground.
"No such man is born yet who can intimidate this Chauhan of Rajputana"
Eshant replied with ease and again, where was the lie?
Shefali could feel the growing heat and wondered why her brother was acting in such a way.
