After the wedding, Kai and Linh went into the woods behind the north tower and quietly consummated their marriage. Although the group was trying to get some rest, they would vividly hear the happy moans that the couple were expressing.
As Jenna and Gamma slept quietly under a tree, Josh remained awake to take watch, while Citrus looked as if he was sleeping.
However, he came over and sat next to his master, as the moans echoed through the wind.
"Kai and Linh sure know how to have sex." Citrus said.
Josh chuckled.
"They've done it ever since they started dating."
"Oh, really?"
"Whenever I'd go into their tent, they would always be naked under the sheets. Kai insisted that he slept separately from Linh, but I saw through them."
Citrus turned from his master and faced the starry sky.
"I never had the chance to meet your flower. I attended the vigil, but I always envisioned him as a real flower, like the ones Dasha and Petruso's children are growing."
Josh took in the words Citrus spoke of the boy he loves so dearly.
"He is a flower, who bloomed into a beautiful young boy, and he is the love of my life."
"I can see it in you, master." Citrus said. "I can see that you truly and deeply love him. I know you'll find a way to awaken him from this curse."
Josh sighed.
"If there is a way."
"The way may not be through the defeat of Ender and Wren." Citrus said. "It may be through you."
Josh looked at him.
"Me?"
"Yes, my lord."
"Why me?" Josh asked.
"Because of your love for him. You may find the answer through destroying the enemy, but at the end, it will end up being through you."
Josh began to ponder Citrus's words, but he doesn't believe that he is destined to save Tyler's life. He still thinks that Ender and Wren's defeat will bring his flower back.
As his thoughts began to drift in his mind, Josh fell asleep, and started to dream.
~
Josh found himself in the midst of battle; having defeated Ender and Wren. He was surrounded by mist and smoke, and the north tower was reduced to rubble.
His weapon was covered in the blood of his enemies. Even his face was bloody and bruised. He took a massive amount of damage during his final attack.
When he returned to the Trench crypts, he hoped to see Tyler wake up from the curse. Instead, he saw Jenna, Kai, Linh, and the rest of the group, all surrounding a yellow taped gravestone.
He could hear the sounds of sobs coming from his friend, Jenna.
Josh began to hyperventilate. Everything around him started to blur. He couldn't see anything, except for his own tears. His hands started shaking, until he fell to the ground and screamed.
Josh woke up. He was still hyperventilating, and there were tears in his eyes. He rubbed his hands against the ground, until felt something.
Curious, the man sat up and looked to where his hand lay upon the mysterious object. It was a letter.
"What is this?" He said; picking it up.
His thoughts awoke Citrus, who came over to his side.
"What's going on, my lord?" He asked.
"Someone left me a letter." Josh said.
Josh opened the letter. When he did, he quickly noticed that it wasn't an ordinary letter. It was smeared with black paint and had drips of crimson blood.
Then, Josh began to read it.
Lord Josh Dun of Trench,
You are entering into our world, Dema. My aids have been watching your every move, and you are surrounded by all areas. Make any mistake, and your people will be subjected to the cruelty of the Bishops. However, Lord Josh of Trench, I am offering you a deal. Meet me here tonight, along the valley, and you shall be given a chance at peace.
Please note, Lord Josh of Trench, any outsiders are subjected to our reign, and my Bishops will do to them as we did to your flower, the child you love so dearly.
Don't be late.
Dema will control you.
Josh lifted his head from the letter and looked into Citrus's eyes. Fear and terror appeared in his face.
"Nico."
Citrus gave his master a questionable look.
"You mean, Master Nico of Dema? The ruler of the Bishops?"
Josh nodded.
Citrus quickly awoke Jenna and Gamma, and rushed to Josh's side.
"What's going on?" Gamma asked.
"Nico has sent Josh a letter." Citrus said.
"No fucking way!" Jenna cried. "This can't be!"
"What did he tell you?" Gamma asked.
Josh took a deep breath.
"He has warned us of a threat, and he wants me to meet him tonight."
He put down the letter and stood to his feet.
"I'm going to do it."
Fearing for her friend, Jenna ran over to Josh's side and took his hand.
"No!" She cried. "You can't meet him! If you do, you'll never see us again!"
"Jenna's right." Gamma said. "It could be a trap."
Josh considered the words that the Bandito girls were telling him. Nico might be using this letter to lure him into a trap, but it was a chance he was willing to take to save Tyler's life, and the lives of his people.
"I must go to him." He said. "It's the only chance I have to face him, and save my flower's life."
As Josh started walking away from the group, he turned back to Citrus.
"Go and alert Kai and Linh." He told him. "I am leaving them in command until I return."
Citrus nodded.
"Yes, my lord."
With his orders given, Josh lifted his hood and walked away; disappearing into the Trench woods.
