Yunlan arose in this unfamiliar room, not sure of anything. He didn't believe what he had been told but Wei was in danger from someone, and this was the only way that he could find out who and stop them, so this is where he would be staying until the case was finished. It was one of the spare rooms in Wei's house which was a modern technological building with lots of glass, to allow in as much natural light as possible. It was not what he expected, he had pictured Wei living in a Victorian styled home with stone fireplaces, not this glass house, a goldfish bowl. Yunlan was awoken early before breakfast when the lead guard tapped on his door, and came to speak to him. Chu had instructed the guard not to call him My Lord, because he didn't know of his importance in Lord Shen's life.
"What am I to call you? Guard? Or do you have a name?"
Yunlan asked more sharply than he'd intended because the thought of someone having six personal guards, shouted money, lots of it which made him feel intimidated.
"Call me Guard Guo. How do we address you Sir?" Guo Ying asked as he briefly scanned Yunlan's mind and couldn't see any lines of trust towards anyone in this house.
"Just call me Yunlan, how long have you worked for Shen Wei, Guard Guo?"
"We have served him for a very long time, since he inherited the Black Robe Spirit, and we would defend him with our lives. Breakfast is being served in the smaller dining room downstairs near the kitchen. It's easy to find, follow the smell of cooking. My Lord rises early, he's there already. Excuse me Yunlan."
The guard bowed in respect and left, he could sense Yunlan's feelings and knew exactly what he was thinking.
This guard seems very cold in his manner, Yunlan thought, maybe they saw him as unnecessary, and they treated Shen Wei like a lord. Things were very strange, the guard had easily avoided saying how long he had worked here but volunteered the fact that they were all willing to die for Wei. Therefore they cared very much for him and were completely loyal. If that was the case, then it wasn't surprising that he might have to prove himself to them, before he would be accepted, but Yunlan was totally wrong through ignorance, not his fault. He hadn't been informed that the guards would also protect him with their lives, if they had to.
He left his room and trusted his sense of smell as he went looking for the breakfast room finding it easily, just in time to see Shen Wei serving himself some scrambled egg after he had poured a glass of orange juice. His heart soared because he looked exactly as he remembered him. No different from the coffee shop, except now he knew that Wei had no memory of him or their attraction, this was going to be more difficult than he'd thought because his feelings had increased from the moment he saw him.
"Good morning Shen Wei, I am your new bodyguard, just temporary while you are working on this project, my name is Zhao Yunlan. If you need anything just call me."
