Yunlan was extremely tired and the pain had returned at an alarming rate. He found it difficult moving any muscle in his body and had guessed that the venom was partly to blame but Apep had explained that he could bite him once more before it would be toxic, and Yunlan agreed, it was the only way he could get out of this cupboard, never mind the building.
"This will be painful, I'm sorry My Lord," and Apep bared his fangs and sunk them into Yunlan's other shoulder to release the required amount of venom while Yunlan gasped deeply and held his breath, forcing himself to remain quiet. The look of pain remained on his strained expression until Apep quickly removed his fangs. Changcheng caught him as he slumped forward holding him until he regained his alertness. He knew that the bite was for pain relief and he waited for a few minutes until the venom took effect and helped Yunlan to his feet, heading towards the nearest exit to take them out of the building.
The search teams hadn't noticed that one of their own was missing because he had a strange way of being ignored, and he hoped that it would be the same when Yunlan was with him. They had managed to make their way along two corridors before one of the teams came close enough forcing them to hide. The hallway they were in had carpeted floors and large stone brick walls with decorative shields and crossed swords, but halfway along there was an inset in the wall displaying a suit of armour, with enough space behind it to hide one person. Changcheng had to encourage Yunlan to get behind it and stay there, while he tried to explain that they wouldn't see him. He didn't exactly disappear, he just became easy to ignore and the snake stayed with him for protection in case he was wrong.
Changcheng jumped up onto the nearest broad window ledge and raised his feet up as he looked out, while listening to the sound of the men coming closer. Apep sat on the ledge ready to spray venom if they stopped, but watched as they gazed towards Changcheng and never noticed him within arms reach and continued walking. He waited until they were out of sight and jumped down to help Yunlan out from behind the armour who was amazed.
"How did you do that, have you always been able to? Is there anything else you can do?" He asked as he stared at this innocent looking young man who was smiling back at him.
"I don't know, but this is enough for me. It comes in useful sometimes ... We have to move, are you feeling alright to try and hurry?"
Yunlan nodded while Apep returned to his arm and they moved towards the end of the hallway where it was linked to the inner square, giving them a better view of the shape of the building. It was a castle with four turrets, one at each corner but Yunlan had spotted the security cameras mounted on each wall, giving a different angled view to whoever was watching the screens. Wei would walk straight into this trap and he didn't know how to warn him. There was a lookout at the top window in each of the turrets, and he couldn't leave. All this preparation was to catch Black Robe, to catch Wei, and Yunlan was the ideal bait.
